Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Pro

This product does not work on dell nor acer and gives problems on ibm as well. I tried both the drivers from the cd and those online. The image quality is also not good (it worked after a lot of trouble on IBM). The earlier ones were really good. This is a waste.
Nice Packaged, Nice Looking Webcam, Clips Seem to work pretty well with Laptop/Notebook.
I follow the the menu installed the software before I plug in the web cam. Guess what...after the software was install, it ask me to plug the web cam in...than nothing happen.
I check the device manager, it was blank.
software conflict with my laptop and made all USB port fail
I have to switch to safe mode and system restore.
I try about 3 time, I give up and returned it to amazon.
I never had problem with the Logitech Quick Cam 4000, what so ever. But This one don't seem to work with my Dell 6000. Not sure is the software that came with or the camera is bad.
B. Friedlander is right on some accounts:
* The webcam DOES get hot for some odd reason.
* The clip is MUCH, MUCH better than the previous model
The design of the unit is typical of Logitech's world class designs.
The performance of the device is wonderful.
DO NOT INSTALL the software that comes with the CD! It's full of bloat and crap. Download the bare drivers off the Internet and it will work just fine!
I bought this webcam hoping for an overall improvement from their previous Quickcam for Notebooks Pro, but I was so disappointed I had to return it. Pro's in con's, in comparison to the previous model:
Pro: Clips onto my lapto better than the previous model, which always fell backwards. Slight more compact, smaller carrying case.
Cons: When using camera in super mode (i.e. full motion video), anything moving becomes very blury. Didn't have this problem with prior version (or with the Orbit). Users on the other end report heavily compressed or pixelated images. Could be a problem with the other users connection, but we never had this problem before with the older version webcam. The colors suck. Worse than the previous version. The camera gets pretty hot.
Can anyone out there make a decent notebook webcam? I guess I am going to throw some darts and try another brand.
I have been very pleased with this camera. I own an IBM Thinkpad with WinXP. I had no trouble setting it up and use it for video IM conversations. The mounting clip is nice and sturdy and the usb cord is shorter for laptop use. I was so suprised to see the poor reviews that I had to write my first one validating the quality of this camera.
it's my first webcam, at first i had trouble setting it on my gateway notebook, but now it mounts just fine. the camera works nicely with msn, though i had to play around to get the audio to work. The image quality seems higher than the logitech fusion. The little thing does heat up pretty fast. It worries me, i guess i will just unplug it when not in use.
If You own an IBM T - Series NoteBook ( or any IBM NoteBook with the raised Edge from the Flat surface of the LCD Screen ), you can ignore this product because of the clip which is used to attach this Cam to the top of your IBM NoteBook Screen.
The Clip will slip on the outer surface of your Laptop Screen and you'll end up with a camera pointing downwards onto your keyboard everytime.
The other person who gave the review above : " Calijoe " must be using one of the Compact and slim IBM 10 - 12 inch LCD Notebooks;
or he must be working for Logitech and is pulling a fast one on all of us.
Buy at your own peril.
Get the Logitech Fusion instead, although it's not really too portable, if you are a Road Warrior.
And like A. Vezirian "stisev" has mentioned, download the QuickCam Software from the Logitech WebSite instead of using the one on the CD.
Hope this was useful.
Great camera. Good low light picture. Built in mike works great.
Software on cd would not load so I downloaded it from their site. Put it on a Dell 9300 with media center.
The main thing that people need to know when looking at this product is that it is designed for laptops. It has a very sleek and compact design with a nice carrying case to go with it. The microphone/headset is also a very attractive piece. But asthetics aside, here are a few key points regarding this this product:
Pros:
- Compact and easy to take anywhere your laptop goes
- Good video quality (as tested with MSN Messenger). I compared this to other webcams which tauted a true 1.3 megapixel image. The lighting adjustments that are available and the face-tracking are also a helpful addition. I cannot seem to get the frame rate all the way up to 30 fps, but that may be due to my computer and my connection.
- Easy installation. It is very easy to set up.
Cons:
- I think webcams in general are stil a little complex for users who are not technologically savy. I tried have a couple older relatives install it on their own. No go. But this would be true of any webcam.
- The USB cord which comes out of the camera is short. I have a small laptop... but for users with mega-media-laptops, depending on the USB port location, the cord will probably be just long enough, without much extra give.
- The carrying case does not fit the camera and headset neatly. (Or at least I can't figure it out).
Additional notes on the software: The video effects are nice, but it doesn't seem to do well with my face. It actually does better with my wife's face. It essentially tracks your facial structures and moves and changes the 3D animated image to match it. It is a really nice touch. But it may be more or less effective depending on your facial features.
About the hardware: The headset itself is average. I like that it is very compact. The ear piece fits nicely on my ear. But it's not the best quality microphone for use with programs such as Skype.
Summary: All in all, I am pleased with the product - mainly because I had reasonable expectations on what a notebook webcame would be. I recommend this product for those who, like me, need to use it on the go.
This is my first webcam so I can't compare it to previous models as other reviewers did below. I've had no problems with the web cam using MSN messenger. The sound and picture quality is great. If I move around quickly, the picture will blur but I think that's pretty standard given the level of this cam. The clip on works nicely and fits onto my laptop securely. The camera does get hot but as far as I can tell it has no effect on the camera's performance. I've heard you need a USB 2 port in order to make the camera work properly which MAY explain some of the problems other reviewers found. Overall, I recommend the cam. After rebate, the cam was just over $50. For that price, the web cam has performed extremely well.
I've got a Dell Inspiron 6000 and I had no real trouble whatsoever installing the software and getting the camera to function. During the install routine, it did take what i thought was a good long time to recognize the device after installing the USB drivers (during which time it displayed "no camera found"), but with some patience it found the device after about a minute. Since then, it has worked beautifully with Skype. The integrated audio mic is decent as well; certainly not the sound quality of a logitech headset but perfectly acceptable and heck of a lot more convenient.
Very easy to install (Should be up & running within 15-20 minutes). The webcam itself works great; excellent picture quality and its accompanying features (especially the face tracking aspect of it) make it well worth the price. Heads up: It gets Hot! If you've used it for more than 15-20 minutes, handle with care. No oven mitts necessary but it does get hot. Apart from that, the carrying case may be slightly small for the webcam (takes a minute to get it in there just right), but overall a good investment! Far better than other competing products in the market.
I got this product through Amazon, Installation was very easy, and the image quality was just amazing, with its 1.3 meg camera resolution the quality of video is just out standing. I would recommend this product to all the notebook owners.
the laptop camera is very small, which was a pleasant surprise. it is much smaller than it looks in the picture. the resolution is pretty good, although in low light the color leaves something to be desired. overall i am satisfied with my purchase and the camera is more than fine for the basic video conferencing that i use it for.
I hesitated on purchasing a web cam for a long time. Finally did it and am happy with the result. I don't have much experience to compare this to others... but so far, so good :)
Yes, it is small and wonderful. I was apprehensive about its over heating reviews. Yes, it gets hot but so far that has not impacted its performance. The built-in microphone is powerful enough to pick up sounds from the room so no one really needs to be close to it while speaking. So I never really use the handsfree that came with it.
The profile is small enough to carry it in your laptop bag. It easily connects to Instant Messengers as well so you do not need to worry about configuring it to a yahoo, msn or skype.
Camera, mic, drivers, and software all worked fine. The clip will not hold properly on the rather wide edge of the Thinkpad T-series laptop. This caused the unit to constantly slip around and fall off. This is somewhat surprising from Logitech considering popularity of T-series laptops. Logitech Support acknowledged repeated emails but did not offer any solution or resolution.
The quality of the camera is incredible, the images are amazing, the video is pretty clear the sensor is excellent, but it was kind of difficult to fit in my notebook (is a Compaq V2665US) and sometimes it moves from the way I put it. That is the only defect I sow on it.
Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I'd recommend it to anyone who cares about the quality of the pics/video they want to send. If you expect to use it infrequently, I'd buy something cheaper.
Pros: Easy to set up, excellent software package, great picture and video quality (have yet to try the microphone yet). The software has some cool avatars and you can get more from Logitech's website. A face tracking feature keeps the camera focused on you and allows the avatars to mimic you. It's easy to adjust the camera specs for different environments. The semi-hard case is cool to have.
Cons: It was pricey, but it's balanced by the quality. The clip could be a little better. It takes a little fiddling to get it to sit on the lip of my T series ThinkPad. Also, the cord could be longer. I could see someone with USB ports towards the front of the machine having trouble with the cord length, but it's not a problem for me.
Having read the previous reviews I agree with the following:
versatility of the wider viewing angle
portability and the convenient size
fair color rendition, relatively decent resolution
mediocre low light compensation
considerable heating up of the unit (makes sense: the smaller the area for heat dissipation, the greater the heat index)
Overall, the cam performs well outside of the IM environment. It seems to tolerate MSN but craps out on Yahoo. Major problems include a significant lag, freezing up, and worst of all, enormous posterization. I was so disappointed that I nearly returned it but, trouble is, there are few if any products much better for the price. The limitation is largely in the entire product category and not in this cam per se. I'm hoping that it performs better with Skype and AIM. MSN was ok but not an option for my Mac-user friends.
Oh, minor gripe: the clip is cumbresome to attach to my Dell Inspiron but stays put once there.
Other features: face tracking, funky avatars-- just tiresome gimmicks for teens. What counts is basic streaming of images and that seems to be greatly dependant on the IM interface. Some day this generation of webcams will seem like Kodak disposables.
my old logitech webcam didn't work at the second month i used it:(. this new one works very well and the image is much more clear than the last one. also, i like the build-in mic. the problem is it turns to very hot after only 30mins.
Perfect size for people who travel around. Easy installation/setup, excellent picture quality, and the best thing is no need to ever focus the camera and with logitech's face traking feature makes it a great buy. Highly recommended.
Beware !! It is a good webcam in the sense that, the picture quality is good. But it heats up like anything. I used it for hardly 30 mins and it heated up to a intolerable limit.
I had to disconnect.

I find the image quality to be very good...yes this camera does heat up a bit but it works very very well, even in dim light.
The ONLY drawback is this stupid clip which does not fit on my laptop frame...so what i do is lay the webcam on top of the screen and hope that it doesnt slide off...the clip is terribly designed and doesn't give enough at all!!
I purchased this camera to use when traveling. I also have and use a Logitech QuickCam 5000 Pro (see my review for that camera), so I take this camera (the Notebook Pro) with me on trips.
It comes with a small, rigid case to protect it as well as a wired earpiece (headset with microphone). The camera works with the driver/software to automatically manage the image (color balancing and exposure) as well as the audio (eliminating most of the echo).
I have used it with MS Communicator (the corporate version of MSN Messenger) as well as Skype. Works well with both; the image is clear and colorful and the audio is clear and clean. The clip it comes with to hold on to the screen is somewhat unstable to use with the IBM Thinkpads given that the screens on these notebooks have a wider edge. However, if you don't play around too much with the camera it holds on well.
Overall, it is a pleasure to work with.
Notebooks Pro is the highest rated webcam (for notebooks) on the market and for good reason. Audio and Video quality is excellent. You can talk normal and be 2 or 3 feet away with no problem. The echo cancellation feature is a true must for webcams, especially with the use of video. On the negative side the USB cable is too short which limits interchangeability with your desktop. Also, I have the Quickcam Fusion for my desktop which is a 5 star rated product and without doubt the best of the best webcams overall. Logitech ships that product with Quickcam 10 software which is probably a nice update to Quickcam 9 the Notebook Pro uses. Unfortunately, Logitech provides little detail and info on these technical and software issues. Bo
I got this for my son when he went to college. The webcam has excellent picture and sound quality. It is so small and compact and clips nicely to the notebook itself. Highly recommend!
I am very happy with my Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Pro. It is very durable, sleek, portable, and reliable. The software for it could be a little better (there is some junk ware that comes with it), but other than that, it has been a very good investment for me. The mic is awesome! I can talk comfortably 5 feet away without a headset, and it can still pick me up clearly. The low light conditioning feature works well also.
I use MSN Messenger for my video chats, and have had no problem with compatibility or lockups.
Since this is my first web camera, I read a TON of reviews on it to make sure it was going to work for what I needed, so I encourage you to do the same. However I am very pleased with this Logitech product. Good luck!
I had the previous version also. It is so far the best webcam I ever owned. Don't even bother to compare it with cheap creative ones. The frame rate and picture quality is awesome. Works in very low light conditions and has great software which can even make gieco or alien out of you.
They keep on working for years. My old one "Quickcam for notebooks Pro" still a champion after use of 3 years now. I got bored and gave it to my uncle. And boy he loves it too. Newer one as mentioned by other reviewers holds much better.
Do I sound Like a logitech sales person? Well I must admit that I am very happy with their webcams. Amazon offers get price and you should get it.
One more thing. It's features outweighs its small size :). My Parents back in other part of world can see even tiny things in my room which they shouldn't :).
Does everything as advertised, also some unique editing features to make this a versatile product. The clip for attaching camera to screen could be improved. Recommended
The picture quality is excellent.
The only issue is that there is a voice echo that the product does not eliminate even though there is a feature for it.
I use a Logitech USB 150 which provides excellent voice quality using Skype and MSN/Yahoo Messenger.
I was surprised when I opened my camera to see that it also had a microphone and and earpiece. So I got more for my money. It fits perfect on my notebook and it's very easy to install. It's a bit pricey but I have to say that it's woth the money.
All I had to do was put in the software CD and plug in the web cam. Everything started working immediately with the Skype account we were already using. Could not have been easier. Highy recommend.
I love my new webcam. It was exactly what I was looking for. It's very tiny and comes with a travel pouch. This is the perfect webcam for someone on the go.
I love this webcam!! It is my first webcam and it was easy to install. I bought one for myself and one my husband in Iraq and we both get to see each other very clearly. The color is not perfect But it is not a problem at all. It has a cute sleek design that fits my notebook perfectly. I really could not have asked for more especially because I got it with the rebate.
I travel frequently for work and wanted something that would better connect me to my family back home. This product is small which makes it easy to travel with. It is incredibly easy to set up and use with my HP laptop. This has been a great purchase.
It's not differ feature to Deluxe version. But I must pay more 30 bucks for this. However, it is compact webcam and good quality. It's automatically dowload sofware in windows Vista when you phug in.
It's hard to give a really accurate review because we had to use w/ my husband's slower pc. Broken images on his pc.
I just love my new webcam. The quality of the image is great. What I really loved is the feature it has with the illumination. It doesn't matter if you have direct or indirect light, the little camera adjust it automatically for you and everybody can see you clearly. The installation is very easy to follow and it upgrades the software for a better experience when installing it. I did not have any problem. I love the size, it is just perfect for when I travel especially because it also bring this cute little carrying case that protects it. Stick your camera and wires there and you are ready to go! I also liked the fact that it includes a little stand for when you don't want to clip your camera to your laptop. This is just an awesome addition because you can easily use it with a desktop too. Disadvantage? The camera is kind of expensive though, but it is better to invest in something good than buying something cheap then regret it because you will eventually end up buying something else, besides Amazon has a better price than if you want to buy it from Logitech's site, almost a 100 bucks, so you better buy it here.
PRICE IS REASONABLE FOR A WEBCAM THAT PROVIDES 'JERKY' VIDEO DURING CALLS.
I GUESS WHEN INTERNET TECHNOLOGY IMPROVES SO WILL THE IMAGE.
I HAVE USED THIS CAMERA THREE TIMES FOR CHATS BECAUSE, IT WAS NOT "WOW"! (AND REALLY GETTING ON MY NERVES). THE CAMERA CLIP DOES NOT EFFECTIVELY GRIP THE TOP OF MY FUJITSU LAPTOP AND OFTEN REQUIRES ADJUSTMENTS TO STAY PUT...SO I USE THE STAND (PROVIDED) INSTEAD.
This is a very nice little package - and the emphasis is on "little". About 3/4ths of an inch wide, maybe a half inch thick (exclusive of the clip) and two inches long. The clip is simpler than Logitech's previous laptop camera designs, but may still be a problem for some. It has a round moulding on one side that may cause it to slide out of position on some laptops. Not a major problem, but could be an occasional annoyance.
As with all Logitech devices, do not use the drivers on the supplied CD. Logitech drivers change often and you'll always want to use the most recent version from their web site.
Image quality is excellent for a webcam. Low-light images are okay, though somewhat noisy (grainy). The lens is wide angle and you may actually find yourself applying a bit of digital zoom to enchance the image size of single figure. Diminishes image quality a bit, but better than being a seemingly tiny part of the view.
The webcam's internal microphone is excellent and Logitech's echo cancellation technology is truly cool. A small earphone and microphone are supplied with the package. A very nice carrying case will hold both the webcam and the headphone/microphone.
The unit works well with all the major IM and VoIP services.
All in all, a very nice package. The camera does tend to get hot, but this shouldn't be a problem. A nice item for anyone who travels, even if it's only to the local library with a WiFi connection or internet cafe. For long distance travel, it's wonderful: a tiny little package that delivers great results.

Great webcam! The mail in rebates are EXTREMELY slow, though! Worth every penny. Use it on my Lenovo T60 and experience no problems with getting the camera on and off or getting it to stay in place, as other some reviewers..if you have one good hand with fingers attached that are still functional, you can attach the camera to the screen and it will stay, no problem!
Perfect Size, Excellent Picture & Sound Quality, Fits well on Dell D600. Kind of pricey, but worth it.
Ok, let me start by saying that this is a fantastic camera. The clarity of both live feed and stills are incredible even in low/uneven light, sound is great even if just using the cam mic, it's very small and portable, clip works great, the numerous features are very intuitive and user friendly, etc., etc. In short, the engineers were on top of their game with this one.
On the other hand, the software designers were not. The issue is that the mic driver is actually very glitch-y. To start, I had to install the software 2 times before it registered the driver at all. Then, after fighting with Yahoo! Messenger for about an hour, I realized that the driver is actually not compatible with Yahoo! Messenger, so it kept freezing up and losing connection and such. It works fine with AIM Triton and works spectacularly with MSN Messenger, though.
In short, this camera can be a bit frustrating to get working right if you're not familiar with the quirks associated with the mic driver but once you get it up and running, it's definitely worth the $70 you can get for on Amazon (I wouldn't pay the $100 Logitech offers it for on their website); probably the best notebook web-cam on the market at the moment.
Good deal, great purchase, and on-time delivery.
Works great. Easy to use. Simple set up. No problems.
I love the easy way this operates. It is so simple anyone can use. I previouly had bought another brand and couldn't get it to work. I am not an engineer. This one only has one problem for me. I say for me because I may be using it wrong. That is keeping it clipped to my pc. I am a great-grand-mother and love keeping in touch with my family. Jean
This webcam does not work with notebooks. I have a brand new Dell Inspirion 1705 and it does not work consistently. I thought maybe it was because of Vista, but it says that it is Vista compatible. I was able to get it working 1 time, and it had a very clear picture, but I have not been able to get it to work since. I have notified Logitech, but have yet to receive a response after 2 weeks.
I tried installing in Windows Vista. And see what...Windows Vista crashed! It gave the Blue screen of death. Camera and volume are good. Not possible to clip in a notebook if the top edge is plain (without a small step like protrusion). Even with an edge, clip doesn't hold good. I am wondering how Logitech has approved the clip in the first place.
Since Apple discontinued the iSight line of cams and my Powerbook didn't have an internal cam, I thought I was out of luck. I noticed in one of the recent OS X updates that they added USB web-cam support, so I picked this cam up and tried it. Even though the packaging that it comes in only lists Windows compatibility, this works fine on my 1.67 ghz. G4 Powerbook. I have only tried it with iChat on the AIM network, since that is the only chat software I use, so I can't vouch for AIM or MSN Messenger, though it may work with them. you must be running version 10.4.9 of OS X for this to work, so run "Software Update" to make sure you have the most recent version.
I recommend this one. In some computers the webcam has installation problem so you cannot use the add on features.
Just install the drivers and you will be much happier. Logitech software slows everything down.
