Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX

This webcam works great! The picture is clear and smooth. Best cam I've used to date.
The image quality is very good and for simple use it is very good
I'm really happy with this webcam. In India people are getting very good quality of picture with this camera.
thanks for providing good stuff with low prices.
Very good quality, and looks cute. I love it. I give it a 4 stars only because this is the first webcam I own and I don't know what's out there.
I bought this camera just to talk to my friends. Installation was pretty easy and it has worked very well since. I was especially pleased with the mic - good range.
I have to say the only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five is this is my first web cam so I don't know what else is out there.
The mic works perfect, I've been able to have full conversations with my friends while the video is streaming, and it does stream beautifully. My best friend who lives an hour away (we got them to keep in touch) was impressed with the quality. It's almost like television it's that good.
The camera also comes with 1.3 megapixel still camera capabilities. I've already used this feature and the shots are great. Much better quality than I would expect from a web cam.
The attachment that fits on my flat panel moniter pivots so I can point the lens where ever I need it.
All in all great web cam and as a first time owner of one I couldn't be happier with my choice!
I won this webcam in a MSN messenger contest-actually, they sent two! I'm so happy with the camera-I can finally get rid of my prehistoric evision123 camera-at least for use as a webcam.
This thing works great especially with msn messenger..sometimes it's slow using yahoo messenger but it's better than most cams. I haven't had one problem yet and it comes with a great stand that makes it very easy to adjust to where you want to view it
If you are an SBC internet user I would recomend buying another camera. SBC does not support logitech cameras and I am unable to send video e-mail which kind of defeats the purpose of the thing.
A very nice little webcam. I have another Logitech (older) but this one is much better. It has a very clear, sharp picture, even though it is not USB 2.0. I love the fact that you do not have to focus the picture (constant focus) as in my old Logitech. Installation is a snap and the menus are clear and intuitive. I got it with a $20.00 rebate form, and if you can get that, you will never buy a better webcam for the money. Even without the rebate, it is worth it.
The camera is very clear. But the build-in microphone is not good. Sometimes it dosen't work.
The webcam, costing just over $20, is really good. The video and picture quality is fantastic. A little deterioration while on the messanger is well within acceptable limits. If you are looking for a good and non-expensive webcam, go for this one.
Very good picture during daytime/good light, but not so good picture during night/low light.
Eventhough the picture quality is rather high, i did not enjoy the microphone of the device. The noise makes me crazy! I cannot use it for video conversations.
I bought the webcam based on positive reviews. The high resolution video is quite good, it operates good in low light (with the low light filter and color boost on).
the audio (mic) however is another story altogether. after 10-20 seconds, the receiver (remote end) gets a shrill audio disturbance, more like a static noise/white noise similar to the one heard with the television tuned to an empty channel. this happens in every software, yahoo messenger, msn, google talk and even skype.
after searching logitech forums, a LOT of people have hit this issue with this camera. and it seems to manifest itself with laptops for some reason. logitech does not yet have any answer for this, so if you are considering using this with a laptop, I would definitely NOT recommend this camera, even though I had high hopes for this combo of mic + video for under $40. my search still continues....
This was actually the first webcam I ever owned, it has been working great so far, plus it's not as pricy as some other high-end models.
I love this webcam. The clarity and stability is good. I like the laptop clip, which is very convenient. I got good feeback from my family members on the other side that the voice is very clear.
Sure I'm planning to gift this to someone dear. :)
I have had this webcam for about a month and it works pretty well so far. The room just needs to have ample light. The built in mic seems to be able to pick up nicely considering it is all inclusive. This is my first webcam and am pretty happy with it. So far so good. Good luck.
I have to agree with the other reviews. The picture was great and clear. Still image picture-taking was a bonus. However, despite reloading the software 3 times, I still couldn't get the sound to work properly on MSN messenger. There would be times that the person on the other end had so much backwash noise - similar to being in a wind tunnel or something. I never heard it on our end. We tried everything to clear it up and nothing worked (even with Logitech's help). I will be returning it tomorrow.
[...]highly recommend this camera - the picture quality is very clear, setup is a snap, and the microphone is adequate. Unbeatable for the price.
This is a very good quality camera. I use it everyday to chat with friends and they all tell me my cam has great video quality. compared to cams in the same price range the quick cam is one of the best. my friend has the creative pro and the quality is poor compared to the logitech.
The movie quality is very solid overall. however with some of the cameras, there can be a problem with the audio. with mine, the recorded sound just came out as static so i had to send it in for another one. however the other person i was communicating with's one worked out just fine. its an awesome thing if it works how it should
This webcam generate high pitch noise constantly under MSN
messenger. It is reported in the Logitech tech support forum but
no solution found yet. This is the first Logitech product failed on me.
I was looking for a camera that would give a great picture and be easy to install. This camera has both. I am VERY impressed with the picture quality and have not heard any complaints from the receivers end either. It is easy to install, but the directions for using the computer monitor clip are very confusing. For those interested in buying this camera, it snaps off the basic stand that it comes packaged on, and snaps onto the the clip. It took me a while to figure that out, maybe I'm just extra dense, but the little piece of paper that it comes with really did not explain that well at all. Overall, I would rate this camera EXCELLENT for ease of use and picture quality.
I purchased this model based on the features and the reviews. It installed great, and my mom can watch her new grandchild daily through Yahoo Messanger. I get a great picture. I've also tried the recording feature, which works just fine for me.
The only thing I wish it did better was a bit more flexibility on the angling of the camera. I have to prop it up on something in order to get it angled down correctly. The base is somewhat limited in the amount of tilt available.
I think this is the best webcam. It is so clear. and very well made.I tell every one to buy it.its the greatest thanks amazon a very pleased customer..
Great service! I received my order for the Logitech QuickCam very quickly. I was actually not expecting the package to arrive for a few more days, but when I checked my mail, it had already arrived.
I spent a lot of time researching webcams. I didn't want something cheap, but I also didn't want to spend a ton of money on something top of the line. This Logitech seemed the best bet for the price. I was waffling between this and another comparably priced (when on sale) camera that had auto-focus.
I chose the Logitech for the following reasons:
- I didn't see much in the way of installation complaints in the reviews
- Several people had mentioned how good the low-light capabilities were
- I knew for sure it could attach to a flat-panel display, since I only have a laptop at home.
Overall, I think it's a good choice:
- The picture is very clear - surprisingly so. I wasn't expecting such good resolution. In fact, I have an 8x10 picture of a bunny on the far wall of my home office (~12 feet away) - if I move my head out of the way, the camera picks it up very clearly. Up close, it seems to be able to "see clearly" to about 6 inches. Anyway, none of my friends have nearly as good a resolution on their cameras, and all have commented on what a great picture they get from me.
- The installation was very easy - just pop in the CD, let it run, reboot, and plug in the camera when prompted (this is for Windows XP).
- As others stated in their reviews, the low-light filter is very good. My home office is fairly dimly lit, and I use the camera mostly at night. Without the low-light filter, this wouldn't be possible.
- The frame speed is pretty good - if you move fairly fast, like waving your arms or fingers at a decent speed, the image will blur. But normal movements - like moving your head around to look at different things, or reaching back to stretch, are just fine. Mind you, that's with a DSL or cable connection. Your image will only go as fast as the slowest connection can handle. If you're online with someone with 10kbps dial-up (or if you're the one with the slow connection), don't expect much movement at all! That has nothing to do with the camera.
- The microphone seems to work, although I haven't used it much. Here again the connection matters a lot. When I've used it with local friends who have a high-speed connection like I do, they say they can hear me very clearly, with no distortion in my voice. When I've used it with overseas friends on slow connections, there was a ton of noise on the line, everything I said was repeated, and I sounded like I'd just inhaled a bunch of helium. That was clearly the connection and not the camera's mic at fault.
- I've used the camera with MSN, AOL, and Yahoo. It works fine on all three messengers. Each is a bit different, but that's because of the messenger, not the camera. I personally like the way MSN handles the video best, followed by Yahoo.
Here's where I think it falls a bit short, or where improvements can be made:
- The camera comes with two "feet" - a round flat foot for when you will place the camera on a solid, level surface, and the arching foot that you see in the picture, which is intended for hanging the camera on a flat panel display. I don't use the flat foot at all, because it doesn't allow the camera to swivel up and down. The arch foot has to be used with a bit of caution - if you have a flat-panel monitor or use your laptop at a desk, it's jut fine - quite stable. But really, it doesn't "clip" to the monitor so it's completely firm. It mostly just perches (with support) the camera on the monitor. If you're like me and you sit on the couch with your laptop in your lap, and shift around once in a while, you have to be a little bit careful. I haven't had problems, but it's something to be aware of.
- The low light filter is a setting in the camera's "control panel." It's not an automatically sensed thing. So if you switch back and forth between using the camera in normal light and low light conditions, you have to keep going back to the Logitech control panel and checking/unchecking the low-light filter box.
- The hue/saturation controls on the driver don't go far enough with low light to overcome the glare of the monitor. I have a lot of bluish light emanating from my monitor, so when I use the low-light filter, my image is a bit pale and sometimes a bit bluish. Not to where it's annoying or anything, just not as natural as in regular light conditions.
- The camera has some ability to auto-adjust for brightness, but how it does that is a little strange. Sometimes it'll stay at a certain brightness for a while which is appropriate, and then it'll auto-adjust to brighter, and becomes too bright. It'll recover, but it's not clear why it does that.
So as I said, if you're OK with having a fixed-focus camera, and aren't interested in paying $100 or more for something fairly high-end, this is a great choice. The picture is clear, and the low-light filter is a must if you're going to use this in a not-so-well-lit room. Add to that easy installation, and you have a winner!
Good luck!
I got this product from amazon.com and i really loved the looks and features in this. it has high speed usb port for better A/V communication and I used yesterday to do a voice chat in india and quality was really really impressive considering the bandwidth limitations in india.
for this price its impossible to find such a performer.
It works great with the Messengers, personally I think the best with AIM. MSN and Yahoo have like a little "delay" in the broadcast, but it's not bad at all.
Money well spent!!
I'm using the Logitech QuickCam STX with Yahoo Messenger and it seems to work fairly well, but requires way more ambient light than I would've expected.
First of all, this is probably what you are looking for, unless you want to be able to take photographs above 640 x 420 resolution, zoom or focus, but then you are looking for a pro webcam, and there are one or two here, but you are better spending your $100 in a digital photography shop. For the rest of you that just want a plug n' play digital camera that not only looks great but doesn't smash to pieces by the end of the week because it fell off the monitor, at an affordable price, actually very cheap for what it does, then the Logitech Quickcam Communicate WebCam is exactly what you need... and what everyone else owns.
This black orb is just bigger than an egg with a claw grip that you can bend around almost anything but is especially designed for LCD monitors, but has no problem with CRT or desks. In fact it has the same grip as the Quickcam pro model from Logitech and maybe if you look at this products photographs you can see it. Okay, so that is your stand. The camera itself looks like HAL from 2001. Pity the central camera lens doesn't glow red, ha aha. It even lights up blue on top when on. Very snazz camera, period.
The ball orb camera thing must click into the stand. The directions do not make this very clear and some may be inclined to just let the camera orb rest on the stand, but it clicks into place so that it can bend and rotate on its axis firmly attached to the claw grip. The cable is a direct camera to USB2 that runs about the height of an average person, so if you want it to see further you need a USB2 to USB2 extension. However the cable is adequate for most.
With XP driver installation is crazy at best. Do not use the windows drivers or the webcam may cause Windows crashing. Do not plug in the webcam. Insert the CD. Install the driver software. Then you are prompted to plug in your webcam and follow what Logitech tell you to do. Okay, now you have the camera set so you can take photographs and camera video with it. XP just crashes the cam if you do not use the Logitech drivers.
One last tip. Avoid lighting at the camera directly by using a reading light behind the camera aimed at you. This will boost your image quality considerably. The autofocus is near perfect for the price. You will not have to adjust this camera except to move it around.
In short, this is what you should have unless you want zoom, focus and high quality photographic images. You can use this for free with Yahoo messenger or MSN. 320 x 240 is a fine resolution to run at. This camera can do 640 x 420.
Just get it, call home, force them to upgrade to broadband and end those $100 transatlantic phone calls. FREE VID-PHONE if you have a microphone! In which case see into getting yourself a gaming headset or similar.
Like with the Creative Webcam Live I purchased (and returned), this camera had a delay of almost a 1/2 second between the audio and the video. I tired it on a with a Pentium 3, 860 MHz, 512 MB RAM and then on an almost untouched, brand new P4 eMachine, 2.8 GHz, 768 MB RAM. In my opinion it would be better just to have audio than to have every single syllable out of synch with the video, which I find to be very distracting. Other than this significant problem, the camera was a nice camera.
I have since purchased a Logitech QuickCam Fusion (which is about double the price of the STX) and been very satisfied. Audio and video synchronization on the Fusion seems to be just about perfect, even when running it on a USB 1.0 port.
I bought this webcam a month back. This is the best webcam I ever tried so far. The features specified for the webcam are pretty much true. The mic which is inbuilt in webcam adds so clarity while exchanging conversation. Logitech provides a very good software with the facility of photo-caputre with the webcam. The best interesting feature of the webcam is Power Boost. It boost power especially for poor light conditions. I recommend this webcam for those who looks for an interesting and lively chat.
I've found the video and audio quality produced from this camera to be excellent. It seems a bit finicky about lighting -- that is to say it wants a lot of light to produce images that are not to dark or in shadow, but the software includes a low light boost to help overcome this. I have used this camera over the MSN messenger video conference service with good success.
When I first installed this camera however, the microphone driver refused to install correctly. My Windows XP SP2 system have me the dreaded (and not terribly informative) "A problem occurred during hardware installation". I contacted customer service via e-mail and included a plethora of details about my system, the drivers I am using, the error message, hardware details, etc. One would think this would paint me as a "power user" who knows on from off. But of course the response I got (5 days later mind you!) was the typical form-letter rubbish. While very disappointing, this is also unfortunately expected from today's electronics companies, so for their poor customer service I only deduct one star.
Bought two Quickcam STX to run on two different notebook computers (a Sony and an HP). Both experienced horrible audio static (hissing) after about 10 seconds on MSN Messenger. Also had the problem on audio capture software. After numerous attempts at solving the problem we gave up and returned both units. Some internet research revealed this to be a common problem for notebook computer users. I must say that the Video was quite good. If not for the audio problems, it's a winner. Notebook computer users beware.
i bought my cam from unbeatable sales.com, and they have a guarantee to have the lowest price. I bought mine for $56.97 plus 11.10 shipping and handling. The very next day i seen it again on amazon for $31.99. Tried to contact unbeatable sales many times by phone and e-mail, and have yet to talk to anyone, or get an e-mail, or any kind of response from them. So i guess their price guarantee is just words on paper!! Also tried to contact amazon theirselves and all they could tell me was to contact unbeatable sales.com, so they weren't much help either.
I bought the Logitech stx webcam after reading the reviews on amazon and some other websites. Even after placing the order, I was really not sure if it would be a good choice for me because I have a laptop and some of the reviews mentioned problems with the clip for flat screen/notebook displays. I ordered it anyway and when I got it I realized the reviews were right. The clip would not sit tight on the monitor it would just be hanging on the top and there is no way u can move the cam up or down -- the cam comes off the stand if you try to move it either way - this proved to be very annoying. The quality of the cam however was very good even in low light conditions. If not for the clamp, I would have kept the cam.
I got 4 of these for christmas gifts. We live 2 and 5 hours from our new baby's grandparents and an aunt that wishes they could see her everyday. I chose this because of other's reviews on ease of use and installation. We love it. I have a laptop and can easily use it even with my daughter in my arms to capture those great moments. And then off they go via e-mail.
I was a little disappointed to find there is an extra yearly charge per user for live video though. We decided to wait on paying the $60 some a year, again per user (that adds up), til my daughter is older. Also, we've found it's not as good in low light. And if you have too much light behind who's being videoing, there's too much glare. So, the lighting has to be right.
Overall, I'm really happy with it. It was super easy to install. Now, I send off video e-mails to family and friends and everyone loves them. What a great way to see our girl grow.
My first webcam. Easy to set up and easy to use. Decent quality but then have nothing to compare to. Good clear sound. Reasonable price. All in all a good buy.
This camera is AMAZING. I was so surprised to see the quality this little thing puts out. Don't let the price fool you, it is well worth the 50 dollars. I recommend 100%.
This is a wonderful little camera that performs very well, providing clear pictures and little to no distortion of the audio. I found it did not work with Windows messenger but works extremely well with MSN.
If you are looking for a webcam that is best in picture quality and affordable in price then this is the one you should go for.
Excellent picture quality
Reasonable Price
Easy Installation
Even Works great with my laptop
You can visit the below website for various technical comparisions of the webcam.

(...)I have tried several other web cams over the past few monthes and have returned them all for a variety of reasons. Finally after all this trial and error searching I found a cam that lives up to my needs, the Logitech Communicate STX...
-Easy set up, as others have stated just run the included program from the CD. I checked the Logitech web site and found newer drivers and a newer QucikCam package and grabbed that. I had my dad install the full sweet so he could play around with different features and it worked perfectly. I didn't want the extra features and just extracted the drivers, works equally well but you don't get the Control Panel feature, you can only access the cameras fine controls from the application you are using (i.e. Video set up from within your messenger app).
-Awesome low ligth filter! As others have stated, it really works and makes a huge difference. My office is right off the living room and I use a lot of indirect light to reduce glare, this puts very little light behind me (i.e. in direct line of the camera lens). With other cams this has created a very dark picture, but the the Communicate STX and it's Low Light boost the image looks great and very well color balanced.
-Great Framerate! Again as others have stated, you get a pretty smooth framerate but it does depend on your connection speed. I have tested this cam on MSN Messenger 7.5 and the latest build of Yahoo Messenger, and I would agree with others, MSN Messenger handles video much better with this cam (and several others I have tried).
-Good sound quality. The integragted mic is adequate but not stunning, but does work well with no real tweaking necessary. I have read some comments on other sites about noise/feedback issues and I have found that if the mic is physically above your speaker approx. 8-12 inches almost all noise issues disappear. This is easy for those with larger monitors but might not be if you use a laptop or smaller LCD, YMMV.
Overall I have been pleasantly surprised by the Communicate STX and would not hesistate to recomend it. It takes little effort to set up and works out of the box with all the major IM apps. If you don't need the tracking and rotation functions of the Orbit models this is the best bang for the buck web cam out right now.
These new cams are great. No more stuttering, slow recordings. Takes about 3 minutes to set up, works right out of the box. Be sure to install the software(takes about 1 minute) BEFORE you plug it in. The hanger for attaching to your monitor is flexible so will fit over monitors that kind of stick out in the back. Another great Logitech product. (I have no connection to Logitech :) )
Should add, I have DSL, can't vouch for it with DialUp connections.
I bought this webcam on the strength of reviews I had read on Amazon and other websites, and it has proved to be a fantastic investment.
I use the webcam with (the latest version of) SKYPE to communicate with my family across the atlantic, and they were amazed with how clear the picture was. I am particularly impressed as the corner where my computer is has very little light at the moment, and the camera manages to compensate for this in an efficient way that doesn't slow broadcast speeds.
The microphone can be used without having to stream the picture, and it works extremely well, producing a clear and sharp voice transmission.
Installation is easy- simply put the disc in and plug it in when told to. The main issue I have read about is the mounting- ideally this could be more secure but the performance of the camera far outweighs this very minor flaw.
I was looking for a mid-range webcam that is easy to use and works well enough to communicate with my family. This one has gone far beyond any expectations I had, and I recommend it whole heartedly to anyone seeking a webcam in this price range.
We've had this QuickCam for a few weeks. We really like the clarity of the images and the compression software. Since my wife's family has a very slow connection, we often make short clips and email them as email attachments.
Based on our experience so far, we strongly recommend this QuickCam.
I installed the drivers (from the CD supplied with the package) and my computer crashed! I am using windows XP. At first I didn't know that the reason was this camera. I reinstalled windows, downloaded latest drivers of STX from Logitech's website, reinstalled the software and the drivers and my windows (XP) is about to crash again. Then I learned from some computer geeks that Logitech drivers are notorious for this. Keep that in mind, before purchasing this item.
I found the STX very easy to use and set up. Also it has a great picture that is detailed all the way across my basement (about 20 feet long). It is nice that you don't have to sacrifice quality for simplicity. It's a great product that I would reccomend to anyone. I can't picture the much more expensive cameras being worth the money, frankly. Logitech is great.
I have been using this webcam for 2 months and it works perfectly. Best for home use.
I didn't really need a SUPER webcam... something cheap and something that allowed my family to see me while I'm overseas. I got more than I bargained for... I DEFINITELY recommend this webcam and I would ALWAYS recommend Logitech as a brand. I have yet to have any problems with any of their products and I find them very easy to use and install. Moral: If you don't want to spend a lot but, still get your moneys worth... THIS IS THE WAY TO GO!
I had lots of problems with this camera and actually returned it to Amazon.
The low-light vision was not very good. If you are in a room where you are the brightest subject, then no problem. But if you have a light behind you, or a light-colored background, then the camera will adjust for that and leave you very dark.
The biggest problem was with the software. When I tried to set up the STX microphone (audio tab), the Logitech program completely froze. It froze so bad that you couldn't kill the process using the Task Mgr, and you couldn't even reboot the system with a ctrl-alt-del. In fact, I couldn't even reboot with the power switch (its a "smart" switch typical on most computers these days). I had to actually pull the AC power chord from the back of the computer to be able to restart. For a software program to freeze XP like this is REALLY bad. I never could get the microphone to work, despite many attempts and many unsuccessful workarounds; the system would always freeze up. Obviously some people have systems where the mic setup doesn't hang, but beware.
I am very happy with the Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX. I use it to have video visits with my family across the country. Have been very pleased with the picture quilty and the sound quility using the microphone built into the camera. It is a little big for those on the road all the time but for those that arn't traveling it is a good choice.
The Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX camera adequately serves my need for Video Chat.
The Quick Capture mode with good microphone makes this a very good buy. I am very satisfied with the Web Cam and Amazon service
The camera's quality is great. It is easy to see the difference in quality with other cameras. My friend said that also. I prefer windows to recognize the devices and install them by itself. That is not the case for this camera. For full options and menus, it needs the logitech drivers either from the CD or web. After the installation, I can take pictures and videos then record them in the hard disk. After the installation, it works with no problem on my desktop or laptop. It has an built in microphone and a blue light that turns on when capturing video. No switches, no lights. It has a rubbery base that "sticks" to any surface. In overall is a good camera.
Don't let the price fool you, we are very pleased with this product and surprised at the low price. We bought Logitech QuickCams for the entire family.
I bought this camera based on the reviews. My sister purchased the same one. Since then, I have used the camera with Skype and Yahoo Messenger. The video works great with both, but the sound quality is better with Yahoo. I'm not sure why, but that has been my experience. As some of the reviews suggested, turning on the low light filter has helped improve the picture. Sometimes the images are a little choppy, but most often they are pretty smooth. I wouldn't expect more from a $40 camera, but then again, I don't have any prior experience with webcams. This camera met my objective of being able to keep in touch with my family while I'm living far away. They can easily view and speak to my four-month old son, so that makes it fun. My sister has had some technical difficulty with hers, seems that Skype can't recognize her camera, but that may be more of a function of Skype than the webcam. Overall, I'm glad I bought this camera.
This is an excellent cam. NO problems with this. It gives a good image even when the light is less.
better then friends cheap camera and separate mics. It works and works well.
This is a wonderful webcam. The pictures are really clear. This is a great cam for MSN. You could do a lot of things with it. You could use it for video conversation, voice conversation, live calling, and more.
Perfect image quality, very easy to use for notebooks as well as standard computer.
I think it is an excellent value & price product!
Allard
Picture does not show well in dim light, otherwise, the product works for its purpose.
Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX was easy to set up and operate. Even for a computer fumble fingers like me. I hooked it up installed the software and loaded msn messenger. After a little tinkering my wife, who is from Shanghai China was "seeing", talking to her sister and mother in shanghai for the first time since she left there in November. Our picture with the Logitech Quickcam was excellent and the sound was excellent also.
very to install, very very good in low lights, good speed, the laptop clip is not good at all.
Ich hatte Probleme bei der Auslieferung und mußte UPS die Lieferadresse mitteilen, damit es dem Empfänger zugestellt werden konnte.
camera has great lighting features. i can sit in a dark room, and the camera settings has a "low light" feature when activated, the camera can display me just fine.
installation and 3rd party program compatibility were piece of cake.
I think the camera is good. Easy to set up but in my case I was trying to use this to communicate with a PC and some Macs. Couldnt get it to work despite days and tons of video ISP's.
Not a bad little camera. By tweaking the settings for color and back-lighting, you can operate this camera with acceptable results even in low lit areas. The built-in microphone works well from a few feet away. For the price, you can't beat it. The only complaint that I have, has to do with the 2 base options it comes with. It's hard to maneuver the camera and position it where you want to. Otherwise, good camera.
quick shipment, quality is better than my expectation. clear and easy to use
Have not been able to get cam to work other thatn with very bad jerk movements. Do not buy!!!
This is a nice little webcam. Good price, cute appearance, good image quality particularly in lower light, installed quick and easy, and has worked flawlessly since. I like that it glows blue when it's on, so you don't have to be paranoid that you're broadcasting your image when you aren't expecting to.
Good quality video and sound. Great buy. Very easy to install and get it up running. Took less than 20 minutes to install and start using.
Very nice webcam for me, a first time user of such a thing. The video mails I have sent work nicely with my comcast email, audio and visually. Be sure you have an extra small lamp for extra lighting. I have not tried to do a live video conference yet but am excited to have this invention for $40.
I'm satisfied with the Logitech QuickCam I've purchased from Amazon.com. I was so happy that I've recommended the same to my friends and colleagues.
Nice claw that wraps around an LCD monitor perfectly. If you have a black LCD this looks technically cool sitting on top of it. The image quality is very good for the price. Get it. You wont be dissapointed.
This cam has met all my needs. Friends all tell me how clear the picture and audio is. Would highly recommend this camera.
I bought the camera at Radioshack for $50...so Amazon is giving you a deal with their price.
Compared to the Radioshack brand camera I purchased and returned the day before I bought this one- this works really well. The picture is more true-to-life. It's an easy setup. If you're going to be doing important business e-conferencing, then I would recommend NOT getting this camera. The picture has slow frames which wouldnt go over well with clients. BUT, if its for personal use like Yahoo Messenger, etc..then this is great. The picture quality is great, the color is good, in the dark, it makes you visible with the Led light, and the CD rom software allows you to make video and still shots to save onto your PC...its a great camera for the price.
This is a good little webcam!
-The price is good.
-The picture is really good compared to others I've seen.
-It is very easy to set up
-The microphone in the cam works really well.
-The foot hangs wells, if you can get it adjusted to your monitor/screen. I have had this attached to both a flat screen and a laptop - both work well.
-The picture rate is a little slow (not-instantaneous), but I think that is to be expected a little for this price.
The word is generally good on this camera on a mainstream desktop linux. No additional drivers or anything are required. However, for reasons I don't know and in defiance of expectations it operates only at USB 1.1 speeds on my 2002-vintage board.
On the plus side, all I had to do was plug it in. In the spirit of linux I didn't even have to logout or reboot the machine. This camera is authentically plug-and-play. The cam is not nearly as light sensitive as other cams I've played with, standard indoor lighting is just fine.
I can't use the camera for actual video communication as the IM clients at my disposal do not support this. This feature has been coming for almost two years. They say it's not that far away, but who knows. Indeed I acquired the camera on the assurance that the clients worked this way ... alas. Among the things I can do with the camera is taking pictures every so many minutes which on one occasion provided wonderful candid pictures of friends at a small dinner party.
The little black golf ball comes with a stand that can be plopped just about anyplace. Quite nice. The camera itself is attractive enough.
I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS with Automatix-provided tools installed.
This is a very good quality, easy to setup and use webcam for the average home user. My family and friends, recipients of videos I created for fun, have all remarked positively on the quality. It was also a very good price at Amazon and I have recommended it to my friends and family. Great fun to use with Skype, having video telephone conversations with my family in Florida.
This camera is great. Much better than I expected. Picture quality and sound is perfect. The only thing that could be better is the stand it doesn't clip well to a laptop it balances, but overall a great value.
not as good as logitech's quickcam pro 5000. that's a better bet with a much sharper picture, and way improved lighting. solid for money, but for a few bucks more, i'd go for the latter.
I have never been the least bit interested in products like this because the movements are so slow, don't follow speech, whatever. My son recently married and we thought some image of our son and new daughter would be preferable to nothing at all. I purchased this only with the help of online reviews and it has been much, much better then expected! Service from Amazon as usual was outstanding. GOOD STUFF!!
Met all my expectations on clarity and performance. This is exactly what I needed
Comparing with other web cams, this is pretty clear and having features for low light filter. A real good one to use. I dont have any problems with this yet.
Horrible driver support. They dont work on x64 XP but their driver development team is working on the current beta Vista! I dont get it. Poor Strategy - Logitech is focusing on a future market at the expense of current x64 users. - If you plan to stick with 32 bit OS this is a good buy. If you plan to upgrade your computer to either Intel Core Duo / AMD 64 and upgrade to XP 64 bit OS this camera wont work!
Read more rants about the driver support - http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=quickcam_software&message.id=831
Video quality is sharp and good. This product is best for the price if you go by the deal for around $25.
My only concern is if I have microphone connected along with this webcam on the PC, the voice input is recognised by only webcam. This leads a confusion to realize which device is working.
Upon installing the software, a "Runtime Error" occurred with XP that will not allow the QuickCam 10.0 software to run. When I called "Tech Support," I kept getting an out-sourced answering machine. Neither would they reply by email. I would Strongly urge anyone Against purchasing from Logitech until they get their act together.
Have had no problems with this cam, pretty good as it ssays, picture quality is also good , the stand for the laptops is also good
Image quality, refresh rate, picture quality in low lighting condition are all good. I have used this just once so I don't know much, so far its good.
Only concern is it doesn't hold tight on laptop screens.
Some people said that you need lots of light for the image to be clear. This is not true. I used the camera in the middle of the day or at night and it always had a very good image quality. And the microphone works very well, too. You don't have to shout or anything like this. This is an excellent webcam.
I purchased this webcam because my brother thought it would help us keep up with each others kids since we live in different cities. I decided to go with this one because it was the least expensive and because it was highly rated on this site. I'm glad I did, because it couldn't have been easier to install and because it looks great! My brother bought one for $80 while I bought this one. Mine works better--even he agreed. Make sure you have good light in your room it seems to make a difference. Can't beat it!
I bought this for my sister who is still running Windows ME (stop laughing). We have used it to video conference through MSN Instant Messenger and the quality is great. I usually have to do most of the computer set-up for my sister but in this case, she was able to set-up and install the camera in less than 5 minutes.
I like this camera. It worked pretty well out of the box. And for the price, you can't beat it. I previously had I think the first Logitech Quickcam back 7 or so years ago. Liked the product/service then and like it now.
I am so happy with my purchase. In fact we bought two so we can communicate with each other. Easy to install and the pictures and video are very clear. Just make sure you got enough light at the back. Hope to have a long useage with the camera.
The quality of the picture and the Mic are excellent. Only one the stand for the Flat screen monitor not fitting properly...
I made the mistake of buying the STX. The Logitech QuickCam Fusion has a much better lens and light sensitivity.
I bought it from amazon. I spent two frustrating days trying to install it. All went fine until the camera recognition. I got all kind of confusing messages, I checked FAQ, there were over 220 but none was answering my question. One said that the CD provided is outdated and I should download the latest edition. I did but still no results. I sent a e-mail to techsupport, no answer. Finally I found from somewhere(because there is no tech suport number for USA in the manual)their number and called. A short fused techguy guided me through the maze of various procedures and finnally after 58 minutes of long distance call on my expense,he got to the amazing conclusion that the camera is bad, return and get a new one.Return? Yes, a new one, No way! Stay away from electronics made in China. This is my third device, from different manufacturers, all Made in China, all bad out of the box!
I really like using the cam and Skype. However, I thought it would attach to the top of my thin monitor better. I'm able to make it work but it is a little disappointment. Overall though, I give it a 4 because all else works great.
The camera came on time and was very satisfied with the product. Keep up the good work...
Excellent web cam. I can now easily keep in touch with my parents in New Zealand.
One of my friends had the camera before an i was impressed with the quality of the image, also has a light boost that is excellent at night time.
Installation - A breeze!
Operation - Works extremely well in a well-lit room! The picture is bright and sharp.
Mic - Good!
My only complaint - It doesn't really sit well on the laptop. Wish if it had some firm attachment for fixing it on the laptop.
I use this to talk with family who live across the country. It works great and I would recommend it to anyone. Sometimes you have to try different messenger services to see which one works best with your camera and connection.
I have been using this product for the past 5 months.
I haven't had any problems so far.
As long as there is decent lighting, the picture quality is good. The mike is really good too. It works really well as a voice conference tool.
I Bought this Cam to talk to a friend of mine who was sent over to Iraq with the army and it hasn't disappointed me yet! The picture quality is awesome, once and a while it will be delayed but normally that is due to the internet speed on the other computer. Its really easy to use, the only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to get the mic to work.
Note to buyers...the picture shown here on Amazon is actually the SFX model, NOT the STX model (which I believe is a discontinued model). Logitech shows the same error, which was a huge surprise. Trust me on this...I received the box and it's definitely NOT the same cam as the picture.
I was very pleased with this webcam. It got the job done and doesn't lag all that much. It also has this neat little blue light to tell you when it's on, I love it. XD
Don't really use most of the fancy software that comes with it, but it's simple and you can put it both on the desk and the TFT monitor...
Good webcam for the price you pay. Works ok in lower than ideal light levels. Good to have a mic arleady in it. Mic performs well.
Its the best webcam in best price. good resolution. good quality. quality microphone.
Good reliable quality at a fair price. Good compatibility.
This cam produced video with good quality for the money, I came back and got another one for my uncle.
This camera has perfect picture quality. The picture is really sharp. And it gives nice view even in low light. The only time that it doesnt work is under sunshine, in this case you will see a completely white screen. the sound quality is very good. I had the chance to compare it with several other cameras that my friends had bought, which were also at the range of $40-50. They were much worse than this in terms of picture quality and sound. And some of them toke back theirs to the seller and bought one of these...And for this moment me and my roommates all have the same camera...
I purchased two of these to communicate with family. They were easy to install, but I was unable to connect through AIM. I eventually had to switch to MSN messenger, and I am very happy with the webcams in terms of picture clarity and performance.
An excellent choice for the low price camera. Very accurate excellent picture, autophocus, micro. This is all you need.
very good webcam. I set this up for my parents who aren't savvy users and works great. the sound from the microphone comes in very clear, even at 3-4 feet away. picture is decent. make sure you have good lighting on your subject for video chat. hardly any picture 'noise' even in dark areas. hightly recommended. you shouldn't go any lower than this model.
i was looking around for a while and comparing everyones reviews and this seemed to be the best rated. when i ordered it i was very nervous but after receiving it i was so happy. the instalation was so easy and the picture is so clear. i love the features of not only having a microphone in the camera but also the ablility to take good quality still photographs and videos with it. this webcam has great versatlitly on to where i can set it... at one point i had it sitting on my desk lamp that has arounded cover. lol. great sound, pictures and features. great choice.
I am not a computer wiz, but this is simple to use . I am very satisfied with the product. I do not need a expensive web-cam.
i got this cam a few weeks ago, and for the most part its been horrible. the software that came with it was way out of date. but even the new online updated software has many problems with windows xp. its at the point now this cam is going on ebay and ill go get a new one from another maker. logitech does not have a fix for the problems i had, only "work arounds", so be careful. picture quality is so so,i had problems with the built in mic. out of 5 starts is give it 2. before you buy this go onto the logitech web page and read about all the problems.
I just bought the Logitech QuickCam, and am VERY happy with it. Delivery was rapid, and after hooking it up, with minimal trouble, I've had hours of pleasure from it.
The only complaint I have is for lighting. Not the Logitech fault, but it needs adaquate lighting to be used at night. During the day, it's fantastic. Audio and Visual is great. With more lighting in my computer room it will be a 24 hour asset to me.
I spent four hours installing and uninstalling the device. When I first installed it asked for five files from Windows 98se. Had to find the files either from the CD or Windows directory or stop the installation and search on the internet. Finally, finally, finally I got the thing to install but I had another problem. When I connected to the internet and tried to go to any website, IE6 would shut down and ask to restart. What garbage. So I had to uninstall all the software and drivers for the camera ( I am an experienced electronic technician and build computers at work and on the side) and still IE6 would not run. Finally, I had to boot to safe mode and run scanreg/restore and restore the registry from a previous date in order to get IE6 to run . I hope i can return this piece of garbage. OH, by the way. this is my first review of any kind on amazon.com. I hope this helps alot; When I googled for the files I was serching, alot of other people were having the same sort of problems. Thank you very much
I just recently purchased the Quickcam STX for my sister who lives overseas in Greece. It's a great way for us to connect especially since we only see each other on an annual basis. Surprisingly, the video and audio is quite good. I do have a Mac and she doesn't have any issue calling me from her pc. We use Aol instant messenger (Video and Audio) or Yahoo Messenger (Video) to connect. I still prefer the iSight for Macs. Unfortunately, you can't use an iSight on a pc. Wish Apple could make the iSight compatible with PC's. Anyhow the STX is a great cam for what it's worth.
Friends and family were amazed when I sent them a video email. I was blown away when I had an on line video call with my daughter. It is wonderful.
This samll web cam is doing a great job connecting my families overseas. The flexible shoe is really handy and the image and voice quality is beyond my expectation.
Maybe it's just my computer but cannot get it to work with Yahoo IM, it locks it up every time. Have been successful with Windows Messenger. And if I use it with a Logitech app like quick capture image, I then can't use it for any other application, get a message about it cannot be used for more than one application. This is a known issue as per Logitech's website but there suggested fixes did not help me. Have to reboot my computer to regain functionality.
I fell for the look and price of this device and deeply regret having bought it. Every now and then my laptop (HP Pavilion running on Windows XP-SP2) crashes with the blue screen staring at me (among many reasons, the blue screen comes up when your computer lands in some sort of a memory exception possibly due to malfunctioning of a device driver). I tried re-installing the software, and by re-installing drivers offered on Logitech's website but nothing works. It is stated on their website that HP & Logitech know this problem and are working on it!!! Hope it helps prospective buyers.
great picture, good sound..... but never the 2 at the same time. friend and i purchased 2 of these at same time. we can either see each other and hear nothing or hear one or the other while we see nothing. had high hopes but this has so far been a let down.
is very useful to chat with my family in India. they are always happy to see me so clearly. with its inbuilt microphone i don't have to put on any headphones
I bought two of these cams so I can talk to my girlfriend over the internet. They installed easily and worked great. We are 100 miles apart and were able to have real-time audio and video while playing an online game. We used MSN Messenger. I feel Yahoo doesn't do video well regardless of what camera you have. I would avoid Yahoo for video. It also turned out to be a great toy for an 8-year-old who wants to make her own movies.
I bought this camera to use with my Windows laptop computer so that I could video chat with my family while traveling. While it can work for this, everything about the camera is so poorly exectued that its very frustrating to use. Software/driver installation was and continues to be problematic. The mounting system is awful, the camera is rather large, and the microphone does not work half of the time. And when it does work the image and sound quality are poor.
I guess I am spoiled by the iSight camera on my Mac, but then the iSight was much more expensive than the QuickCam. Given the low price for this item (I paid about $25 on sale) its OK and will sometimes do the job, but if you are expecting a good quality product, you'll have to pay more.
PICTURE CLARITY AND MICROPHONE WORK PRETTY WELL FOR THE MONEY, JUST WISH LOGITECH PRODUCTS WERE A BIT MORE DURABLE..I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAMERA FROM THEM THAT EVER LASTED MORE THAN A YR....
This camera is great! Very easy to install and use. The picture quality is outstanding. The only downside is that it doesn't stay on my latop very well (I have a Dell Latitude). I think this would not be a problem if I had a laptop with a flatter screen edge. Nonetheless, I just prop it on some books and it is just fine.
That is a good Web Cam and I like it.
I will recommend this to my friend.
Revising this review, I still give Logitech the lowest possible rating:
For not writing Apple OS X drivers for this webcam or any other reasonably-priced cam they make. The higher-priced cams come with resolution and added features so that's what you pay for. We shouldn't have to pay more to get Apple drivers, essentially a middle finger in the face to those who don't use Microsoft operating systems and who don't have money to burn.
This forces us to use third-party applications, either freeware (macam) or shareware (iChatUSB), which don't work 100% perfectly.
The problem with using this cam on an Apple Computer is that the video goes completely berserk when you put patterns in front of it, both simple and complex. I did extensive searching on various forums and found many users in the same situation, and only after I posted a detailed analysis of the problem, did another user e-mail me and tell me the fix, which is...
If you're using macam (freeware), set the Compression level in Camera Settings to 50% before hitting the Play button. Then save the camera settings. For at least two guys, this de-berserked the video.
I really like the camera, but the microphone is horrible. There is a lot of echo when I use this microphone. It would be helpful if there is a way to shut the microphone... Any suggestions?
The install w/this webcam is so simple, picture is clear and the blue recording light is a plus. This is good quality for a fair price. The only 'down-fall' w/this product is the clip, it does not attach to my desktop or notebook as securely as I would like.
Works fine for the price. The top of the line Quick Cam with face tracking is better.
We are very pleased with our quickcam. For the price you cannot beat the quality. Service was fast and it arrived in great condition.
I found the camera very good in quality and easy to use.
By now, you've read several reviews. I'll simply say this: I get many comments on the quality of the camera's image. I have nothing but good to say about it. I paid thirty bucks for this cam - a steal of a deal. Buy it; you won't be sorry.
This webcam is easy to operate, priced just right, and works perfect. Highly recommend to others.
Gave this to my 20 year old for Christmas this year. He installed it very fast and the picture is great. Fits perfectly on his lap top screen.
Great price also.
The camera came across pretty clear. Easy setup. The picture is a bit jerky, but I only paid about $35 including shipping. Best value for the money. The reason I bought it is that it got a great review online.
For the money I'm pretty happy with it.
I bought 3 of these cameras as Christmas gifts: one for me, one for my parents, and one for my in-laws. We live a long distance from the grandparents, so the cameras have been great for keeping in touch. The grandparents love to be able to talk "face-to-face" with the kids. We have not had any problems with the cameras so far. Installation was simple, and they're easy to use. I'm sure that there are better webcams available, but this one was a great price and works fine with the Microsoft Windows Live Messenger. I highly recommend it!
This was the hit of Christmas for Grandparents who live far away and Daddy who works on the road 3+ weeks/month. Now everyone can see the new baby and big sister and vice versa. Makes the distance seem a little less overwhelming.
This camera is so much fun to have and is easy to use.
Good picture quality, built-in microphone is convenient. Not sure how to mount it to laptop.
If you're looking for an entry-level web-cam, and want ease of installation, application, and utility, this is the web-cam for you. I was up and sharing wb-cam video in ten minutes.
The QuickCam is sleek and clear. Connects faster.
Only problem I faced was when using this along with laptop. When rested on top of laptop, it goes out of focus and you have to lower your laptop to bring the focus of the lens down to your face.
The quality is great for the price, which makes it affordable to buy one for everyone in the family. My daughter told me it was the best Christmas present ever because now my little grandchildren who see each other only once or twice a year can visit anytime. And the toddlers love to see each other, Grandma and Popi, and most of all themselves on the monitor! If the picture is grainy, try increasing the lighting in the room.
Excellent product for the price. I am happy with it. No complaints till now.
Bought four of these cameras(2 from another vendor) for wife and kids to use. so far have not been able have total success with any of them. Most of our PC's crashed or slowed to a crawl when the software was loaded. We may get video and no audio,or vice-versa. Downloading software directly from Logitech helped our PC but two kids have given up and removed the software due to slow system.Have tried different IM services but no luck so far.
The webcam setup is pretty easy, image and sound quality are excelent.
What I don't like is the big holder, in fact no much useful. The small one that is included is pretty much reliable.
Coming from a film and television production background, I was extremely wary of anything "camera" that wasn't considered "top of the line"...but this product has made me EXTREMELY happy! It was suprisingly easy to install, and does everything that it claims to do...for a very, VERY reasonable price. I purchased one for myself, and one for my sister who lives on the other side of the country (so that she can witness my daughter growing up!!), and it is a WONDERFUL choice for anyone wanting to stay close to loved ones who happen to live far away, when the phone just isn't enough.
I bought this camera for my father who is now entering the technology world. He absolutely loves it. Now he can talk to all of us kids and grandkids via computer and see us at the same time instead of using the phone.
The logitech is a good product. It is small, and fits nicely atop my computer. All I need say is it works well.
I thought all cheaper webcams would be relatively blurry and slow, but this logitech quickcam proved this assumption was wrong!
Set up was simple, works better than I expected. I am very pleased with the product.
We were looking for a web camera and this Logitech QuickCam is exactly what we needed. It enables us to communicate with family and friends throughout the US!!
I purchased this webcam for use with Skype. My family and I like to use video while talking on Skype and this webcam works great. It has the best picture quality of any I have seen while using Skype even in low lighting. I am very pleased with the price and performance.
Logitech is one of those brand names that are immediately recognised and associated with computer peripherals. Unlike some other brands, though, Logitech is consistently reliable and does just what it says it will do. In my family we have four or five Logitech web cams and they all deliver the goods with no trouble.
I bought this for my brother in the USA to communicate with my Father in the UK. He has not related any tales of woe concerning installation and I have never experienced any problems with Logitech software. The image is very clear (and I am judging from having seen the image on the receiving end). There are lots of people making web cams these days but to my mind Logitech is the bench mark.
This is an average camera. The image seems too delayed, but comes out alright. The microphone is fine.
If you're looking for something simple and straight to the point, this is the webcam for you. Setup is easy, and Logitech offers free software on their website to make your experience even better. The design also makes it ideal for laptops. I bought one, refurbished, and couldn't be happier. Excellent buy for the money.
Exactly what I wanted, easy to use, great resolution, works on my desktop and my laptop. Logitech products have always been the best for performance, and durability.
This is a great product. More than I expected. Bought 3 of them and sent them to family. Now I visit a lot, either talking on the computer with them or senting a quick visual message.
This is the worse web camera I have ever used in my entire life. The pictures are not clear at all even if you try to take pics with sunlight, it takes smudged stain-like pictures. It is too expensive for something crappy. I returned this logitech camera because I felt ripped off. Stay away from this product.
I am very pleased. Camera works well. The option to have camera follow your head is new to me, but a nice feature since I tend to move around a bit when talking, Camera is Skype compatible; no problem on that score once I got the right model. Amazon offers an earlier version with exactly same name at a lower price that is not Skype compatible. This is also my first experience with a microphone built into the camera. I am very pleased with it. Instructions say to stay within one meter, but this mike picks up from even further away. All things considered, including the price, this is an excellent camera for anyone that Skypes.
A reviewer mentioned attaching the camera to monitor. I had no trouble. I folded the extension up so base was as flat as possible, put two pieces of double face tape, back to back, just back of the lip on the base, let the lip hang over the front of the monitor and pressed down on the tape. Firmly attached.
This is a very good camera, and the price is just right. The one flaw I see in it is its base for the laptop... I felt it could have been better designed. The camera turns ok but again, could have more freedom in its movement. And the cam itself could be less bulky.
But I'm just nitpicky, this is a great buy!
Excellent webcam for the price. Very clear picture and video.
Built-in mike works very well too.
Bought this as a gift, she really likes it. I looked around and Amazon did indeed have the best price.
My giftee has a Mac, and had to download a program called macam before it would work, it was available free on the web so was not much of a problem once we both search engined "My logitech Stx won't work on my Mac" and found the macam reference on the skype message board....so if you have a Mac..be aware.
But she hooked it up and IM'd me on yahoo, and there was her sweet face I had not seen in awhile...YAY!!
And for 28 bucks a great deal.
The problem with this webcam is: it lags if your room isn't lit properly.
I bought it for shooting youtube videos and I found that I have to either light my face up to the point where I become a white blob or I have to deal with extreme lag.
It's good for the money, but at the moment I found that using my digital camera for video (with sound) is a much better alternative -- with higher pixels and less lag. If that doesn't cut it for you, I'd buy a better webcam. Hope this helps!
That's alright. It's easy to use and install. But the automatic brightness adjust funtion isn't as good as it describle on the box.
works great with skype (the primary reason I bought it). Is much clearer than my old (and driver challenged) creative labs webcam pro.
We recently purchased this for my in-laws who live in Korea. They just had to install a few things FREE from the internet to make it work perfect to comunicate with my MacBook that has a built in camera. The Picture was extreamly clear like they were sitting at the table here in Mississippi with us. The Grandkids love it. It has changed the relationship between grandparents and grandkids. Distance is nothing now a days they can have dinner together and open gifts together.
This camera has reasonable hardware, shows good resolution and decent colors even in bad light conditions.
However, the software that comes with it is horrible. Can you imagine 85MB download for a simple web cam driver? Which then unpacks temporary installation files to your Program Files directory (120MB more) and never deletes these temporary files (the actual driver and software takes ~60Mb more)? That takes half an hour to install (longer than it took to install Vista on same box - the whole operating system)? That installs TWO services and adds TWO programs to your Run list, slowing your 3GHz Pentium to the speed of 386 processor? And finally stops working after several days and requires reinstall?
It could be a nice camera if Logitech provided simple and reliable drivers. But they did not, and it really makes a difference (in a bad way). I'll likely throw this trash away.
I"ve used this camera quite a few times now with SKYPE and the picture and sound quality are excellent. The installation was simple and the software is very easy to understand. I will be buying more of these camera's in the future.
Very happy with this. I just bought another one for my husband, because the one he has sends a blurry low quality picture.
I have bought this product a month now. It works great. It is very easy to use. It is compatible with Skype if you are using it. When you plug it in, Skype will automatically recognize it.
Webcam works great. I have had a system crash since installation, but I am not sure it is related to the camera and wasn't a lingering issue.
This camera is OK, but the zoom get real grainy. The sound is good and installs easily.
When buying this camera you have to keep a couple things in mind:
1) It is no substitute for a higher end, high priced, professional camera
2) It is relatively simple in design and usage (is that even phrased right?)
3) It has limited capabilities.
Okay, now that we have gotten all that out of the way, I will go on to say that this is an excellent camera for someone who wants a laptop camera with no frills or complications. The picture is pretty darn good, bordering on great. It balances out tones and lighting in the picture, and it's pretty clear even in low light environments. I use it along with photoshop and it turns out a decent picture. However, like I said before, it's no substitute for more professional digital cameras. It also has an inbuilt microphone making it an all in one communications device, which is an added bonus. I use it to have video conversations with people halfway across the globe and the resolution holds up admirably.
Installing the camera is a breeze: you plug it in to the usb port, slip in the disk, follow a couple o' instructions, a few clicks and you're on your merry way. Perfect for technophobes, computer neophytes, and anyone who hates hassles. It also has two different sorts of stands that can be changed on the fly. I personally use the hook stand that is pictured in the product description because it is so darn versatile. It is flexible and can be bent to fit nicely over a LCD or laptop display, or it could be made to lie flat to sit comfortably on the top of a CRT display. It's pretty darn nifty!
The long and short of it is this: it's a great camera that doesn't set out to be anything more than a great camera. Great for online communications like yahoo messenger (haven't tried it on MSN, but the box says that it's supposed to work fabulously on that as well).
You'd be hard pressed to find a camera in the same price range that will work this well.
This products software was very easy to install and operate. I would highly recommend.
This is the first web cam I've ever purchased but it has served it's purpose very well. We use it to communicate with my mother-in-law in another state so she can see our children and it's absolutely terrific! We've had no problems with it. It was very easy to install. The mic is built in and works just fine. I would definetly recommend this webcam to anyone who is thinking of purchasing one!
No any problem for installation and the quality is good for chatting purpose.
Camera works fine, specially with Skype, which is what I needed it for.
For some reason, the driver software was installed in Japanese, and I can't figure out how to fix.
In short, it's a reliable camera, and worth the price.
I installed on a Windows XP machine, and it went very smoothly. It was immediately recognized by Skype and other webcam-supporting software. Image is bright and detailed, and the microphone/audio is loud and clear. Worthy every penny.
As my first webcam purchase, I thought the Logitech would be a good choice. The camera itself seems decent enough, but my problems were all with the software. I downloaded the newest software for the camera from the website and installed it on an XP machine. After installing the HUGE download, the machine would periodically crash and restart itself. Not good. I also tried to use the camera on a Macintosh powerbook with the macam driver (which is supposed to work) only to find that the camera would rarely adjust from a compeletly washed out appearance when using it with Skype.
I have no experience of using webcams, but this one worked well. The only thing that didn't work was when I signed up for Logitech's free 30-day trial for its own communication system, and its program refused to recognize the existence of the Logitech camera (though AIM and Windows Messenger did) however much I experimented with settings - so that part of what was on offer was useless, but otherwise I am very satisfied.
I use this unit for web communiation with my brother in India ,its best quality picture and voice, use Skype for this unit.
i bought this 2 replace a freebie Logitech i've had 4 about 5 yrs. i LOVE this new model! 4 one thing, it sorta 'clips' 2 my LCD monitor, so i don't have to 'find' a spot on the desk to place it as was the case w/the old one. another gr8 thing about it is that there are so many different settings: you can make it 'follow' you/your face if u don't move too far; it has 'shades' whenever u want privacy; and it 'filters' you w/fun colorful effects. altho i've just had it for about a month and don't use it that often, i'm glad i purchased it. i highly recommend it!
Had a bit of trouble with the color and making it usable with other computers but for the price works great and the picture is almost clear.
I received the Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX very prompt and have been extremely satisfied with the product. I would recommend it to others.
Just received one of these as a present and I am not impressed. My main complaint is that is is useless for capturing outdoor images. Apparently Logitech is aware of this but does not mention this in any of their product literature. Instead, the tech support offers the helpful advice "most people understand that web cameras are for indoor use". This despite the 100s of webcams showing outdoor scenes on the internet. In fact, their old cameras did work better as outdoor cams, but in their attempt to get better indoor results, they broke the outdoor function.
Some things that may affect more customers:
- The motion capture doesn't really do anything useful. It is so slow to start recording that whatever caused the motion trigger is often long-gone. Furthermore, there does not seem to be any way to make it keep recording once the threshold is reached.
- The main software crashed when I tried to set the resolution to 640x480. I had to go to the support forums to find the resolution.
- The software installation did not go smoothly. They tell you to download the latest version of the software before continuing the install, but then you get conflicting info when proceeding.
Finally, note that the prodcut picture on Amazon is no longer correct. You can probably get a correct on on the Logitech web site.
