Review: its almost like being there!
by: Ginnyb on date: March 20, 2007
i use this to talk with my granddaughter. although the resolution is not perfect my granddaughter has been able to recognize me since she was 12 months old. It is so wonderful to be able to see her smiles and laughter and we are able to sing songs together and we can show each other some of our favorite things even though we are hundreds of miles apart. When i go to visit there is no "getting to know you time" as she knows me via the internet and runs into my arms. I recommend this product to anyone who wants to keep in touch with someone over the miles.

Review: No Windows Vista Driver Planned
by: M. Kirsch on date: March 8, 2007
I bought this about 6 months ago. Now that I have installed Windows Vista on my computer, this webcam is a paperweight. Creative has decided NOT to provide a Windows Vista driver for this webcam. DO NOT BUY this if you plan to upgrade to Windows Vista.

Review: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
by: M. Pecha on date: February 10, 2007
We bought two Creative Labs WebCams and we could not get the sound to work on either one. (one was for grandma). We worked with Creative Labs to try to get it resolved and never could get the sound to work at all. By the time we got done working with Creative Labs, we passed the return time with Amazon, and Creative Labs would do NOTHING to help us. Now we are stuck with two useless web cams..... TERRIBLE customer service. What should have been a wonderful Christmas gift turned out to be a pain in the you know what all around. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

Review: Great webcam
by: Optometry student on date: January 23, 2007
My family (in Chicago) and I (in NYC) use this often. It works great with AIM 6.0. The microphone is a bit of a hassle, but works just fine... if you have a separate mic and speakers on your computer, that'll work just as well. I don't use it for anything fancy, so I don't know how it ranks regarding special features, but for my purposes it's perfect!

Review: Great quality for video
by: Hong Mak on date: January 4, 2007
This is the perfect camera for fooling around. This is good for online conversations with videos. I dont recommend this for pictures because it is equivalent to a 1.3mp camera. By then again, this is a fairly cheap webcam, you get what you paid for.

This is a great web cam and it served it's purpose. You will need a lamp on your desk or wherever you would like to use it at night time but other than that, it's wonderful.

Review: Great!
by: kritz on date: December 19, 2006
I use this webcam almost everyday to talk to my friend on Skype and it works great! I've dropped it a gazillion times and it still works well. If you're looking for a basic webcam, nothing fancy, then this is good. It has a feature that lets you take still photos, but the quality isn't that good.

Review: Pretty Good Webcam
by: D. He on date: December 13, 2006
I have this webcam (same as the image, same packaging, etc), and I'm staring at it right now. I got it as a gift (it was on sale on Black Friday for only twenty dollars), and for that price I have no complaints. The image quality is very good, and if you're looking for better, pick up one of those high-end Logitech webcams. Alternatively, you could just meet the person, and you would have very excellent image quality (sorry if this is not possible, but I usually webcam with my friends who live in nearby dorms).

In this review, I previously mentioned that there was a microphone, but upon further investigation, I discovered there was none. My laptop microphone is extremely sensitive.

All in all, a good webcam, even for the price listed on Amazon. Recommended.

Review: disappointed with this webcam
by: Y. Zhang on date: December 4, 2006
I bought this webcam from Staples this Thanksgiving. I have been felt very disappointed about this product. I am thinking to return it.

1. The image of the webcam is too sharp, the contrast is too strong! I was like a ghost in the webcam when the light is not bright. Even in the daytime, if the light in the room is not bright, the image is still very dark. This device couldn't adjust itself well according to the brightness of the light.

2. No built-in microphone. Maybe it is my fault since I assumed it should have. This feature is important to me since I don't want to always wear the headset.

3. The base of it is not secure enough.

Review: Very good webcam
by: Sharad on date: December 2, 2006
We have been using this webcam for a while. Its very good quality wise and transmits decent quality video. Only minor hitch is that the latch system that the webcam has to put it on a laptop screen is not very secure. It can fall off very easily. Otherwise the webcam is awesome.

Review: Great image quality, I'd like a microphone as well
by: Amnon I. Govrin on date: November 22, 2006
This is the 2nd of the series I get.
For the price (on sale every once in a while for < $20) image quality is great, and camera mount is great too.
Not for travelers as it doesn't really fold, but great otherwise.
The headset is nice but when I have a video meeting with my parents I need a microphone, as all of the family is there and a headset just doesn't cut it in those situations.

Review: Nice Web Camera could be better...
by: D. Wirsz on date: November 10, 2006
I think this is a good webcam. It is easy to setup and with some adjustments, the picture looks pretty good too. The dark performance could be better though. The picture gets grainy and the contrast is not so good unless there is quite a bit of light. For the price though (especially after rebate) it is worth the money. I use it to keep in touch with my family in Canada and Florida using Sightspeed which comes packaged with the webcam. Works great.

Review: Excellent value for money
by: Kunal Rohilla on date: November 10, 2006
This is a great webcam for its price. I got this camera for a final price of $13 (after a $25 MIR).
Image quality is very good with well defined colors and sharpness. The camera seems to maintain a decent image even in low light conditions.
The rotary focus control is of course very helpful in setting up the focus depending on the distance from the subject.
I also like how easy it is to place this camera on my laptop screen and with a good quality earpiece and mic accompanying the camera, this offers good quality internet voicechats.
Overall, great construction, good looks and crisp image quality make this a very good buy for its price.

Review: Just Average
by: Jason Sartain on date: November 10, 2006
I received the camera and was not happy when I found a cheap mic that was attached to the cord of an ear peace instead of the the superior sound mic advertised in the ad. I called Amazon, they had no appolgies and said the most they could do was refund my money.

On another note the picture quality was ok but froze at least 2 times or better per use, as for sound I had to put the mic up to my mouth before the person on the other end could hear me.

Not very happy

Works well. Video quality is clear. Me and my girlfriend (she is away at school) turn our webcams on when we talk on the phone. The only problem we have is the internet isn't fast enough to handle the high quality image from the webcam (but that isn't the webcams fault). We both use this webcam, and we are very pleased with the ease of use and picture quality.

The cam itself was easy to setup and performed very well for the intended purpose. It provides a good resolution and has a very good refresh rate. The package also included software for controlling the cam and connecting to other users. I found the software package less useful and more cumbersome to use and opted for the built-in capabilities of Yahoo messenger.

Review: Camera works fine, but drivers/software are making me nuts
by: T. Barber on date: August 31, 2006
I installed the camera, and it works fine and has a good picture. My biggest gripe is with the software that came with the camera. If you install the camera webcenter software, it will launch repeatedly on its own and start filming and snapping photos automatically. If you uninstall the software and leave the drivers installed, you keep getting an error message from the windows image acquisition software. To get rid of this, you have to uninstall the drivers, which disables the camera. I'm not sure if my problems are typical, but I find them highly annoying. In this day of privacy concerns, I would have expected Creative not to introduce something that behaves so suspiciously.

Review: Clear & Colorful Image!
by: John M. Malpica on date: August 31, 2006
I purchased this item just recently and was amazed how clear and colorful the image produced by this webcam. It was very easy to set-up and worked perfectly with the Yahoo Messenger system. This item has additional functions for surveillance and simple moniotring, whether it be watching children and securing the outside of your home. I use it mostly for communicating over the net, seeing family or observing the body language and facial expressions of a potential date. I'm pleased with it's function and would recommend it highly!

I saw all the great comments and bought one. The picture is not nearly as clear as the one I have. Besides, I try to clip it to my flat monitor and it won't stay. The stand looks very fragile and won't work for me at all. I won't recommend this product.

This web cam is good at the price it comes. After mailing rebate i got it for around 20$ which is good. (though i am waiting for mailing rebate to come) The resolution and qaulity of image is good. One more thing i like about it is it works with any video chat software- MSN, Yahoo, Skype etc. U just connect and it starts working. This make it easy to use.

Review: Creative Webcam Live! - It's fantastic, just go for it!!!
by: Neeshant Upadhya on date: August 10, 2006
With so many webcams around ranging from $9 to $100, which one to buy can be a nightmare. My requirement was that of video chat and that is what I use it for. Pictures are excellent and very sharp. In low light conditions you can manually increase the exposure settings to really improve the pictures. BUT this one has more juice...features in the software (included) include Motion detection, time lapse video (best for capturing a flower bloom!!!), remote monitoring (pictures can be updated to a website and u can monitor from, say, your office). And yes, I received 3 colour stickers (to change the colour of the webcam) and a single earphone + mic too. This cam is a USB 1.1 and will work seamlessly with USB 2 as well.

But as I said, I use mainly to video chat. I face a small problem - but that is not a defect in the camera and may be you have a solution. I use Skype to chat but the video does not turn on (this is more a problem with skype and not the webcam) so i voice chat on skype and videos are relayed on yahoo msnger.

Web cam images can be classified, for laymen, under Standard/Good/Excellent. This webcam produces Good images and for the price it is excellent...and considering the additional features included in the software this is a good buy. I am extremely satisfied and hope this will help you decide.

For $30 AR it's a steal. This webcam has decent image quality, even in low light condition, it still works fine. Maybe a little bulky for laptop users, but I am 100% loving it for this price.

Review: it's a good one
by: Serra on date: August 6, 2006
I sent this camera as a gift, so i didnt use it directly but i'm quite satisfied with the display quality when my friend uses it. Our priorities were video capture speed (30 fps) and resolution (640 x 480). We have used it only in daylight and it's quite good. Colors can always be better for any camera, but for this price, this camera is satisfactory.

Review: nice optical quality, bad software
by: S. Lu on date: July 27, 2006
Pros: The image quality is super nice, even under very dim light. Compared to other webcams that I have seen, this one is the way better. When I am video conferecing with others, they are always surprised by how good my webcam is.

Cons: The software other than the driver that came with the camera is badly engineered. It slowed down my computer toooooo much. It usually takes about 15 seconds for my windows xp to start up. After install the software, it takes 5mins. Something must be wrong with that software.

Well, finally, I uninstalled everything that came with the camera except the driver. Everything is fine.

Conslusion: It's a good webcam to buy. Be sure only install the driver from the CD, not anything else.

Review: Why creative doesn't allow you to test drive this before buying....
by: K. Winter on date: June 17, 2006
There is a reason why Creative Labs doesn't want you to test a real working camera with the Creative Webcam Suite on it's web site and here is why...

First off the Postives:
- Great picture in good lighting.
- Would be great for yahoo web camera instant messaging only. (yahoo is the only one supported by creative)

The Negatives:
- The Camera is blind as a bat in low light, even low light that humans can see fairly easily in.
- WebCam Center - overpromises way under delivers.
- Remote Monitoring Feature - You have to go through a round about way to monitor your camera. You have to have the creative suite open, then you have to connect to yahoo messenger. I can see why Creative did this, to save on money, but a web server address would be much, much better like some of the competition offer for free.
- Motion Detection Feature (for home/business security) - Would work great if the camera was not blind as a bat in low light. You really think the theives are going to turn on all the lights so the camera can see them? Nope, so it won't detect them.

Bottom line a good camera for basic video instant messaging. Horrible for remote viewing and for motion detection security.

Review: Webcam Live works well with 3rd party software
by: Andrea Turner on date: April 27, 2006
The camera works very well. We use it to communicate with family and it's been great. We've been using 3rd party software from Yahoo IM to make the video conferencing happen. The only problem we're experiencing is difficulty getting the voice data through the microphone that comes with the camera. We usually use the land-line for sound. Otherwise, the camera works very well.

I got this webcam for my wife because she was going to be on an overseas business trip for a few weeks. She was able to get a broadband connection from her hotel room and was able to use it w/ skype.

Overall, it worked well. The sound quality could have been better, but that might be due to the network. The picture quality was quite good. For $30 bucks (after rebate), I would definitely recommend this product.

Review: The software is like a virus.
by: Swift on date: February 24, 2006
I bought a creative labs webcam live. The image is OK. But the software is unbelivably annoying. It keeps on reminding you to registrate, even after you do so. The worst thing is that you have no way to close those windows. After I called the technical support, the answer from that side is to uninstall and install it again and no software patch to fix this problem. Funny enough, it does not work. I came across a review written several months ago complaining the same problem. I though the problem may be fixed by now. What can I say...?

I replaced my Logitech Communicator cam with this when I had a compatibility issue with the software. No problems with this one it installed easily and error free. I love this web cam! Within 10 minutes of install I was talking to family in Michigan and friends in San Diego. The picture is clear and so is the sound from the microphone. Great price for what you get. The software is really user friendly. I like that you can take pictures with a touch of a button on the camera and make adjustments for insufficient lighting in the background. It stays put on my flat screen monitor or you can just set it on the desk.

Review: So-so video quality, installs lots of hidden spyware
by: Gadgester on date: January 14, 2006
Please note that I bought this webcam (Creative Labs Webcam Live!) a month ago from the local store of a national office supplies chain for $10. You shouldn't be paying more than $15 or so because this is an old model and has been discontinued by Creative Labs. The follow-up models (like the "ultra" model) are barely better than than one (despite Creative's deceptive claims) and definitely not worth shelling out more than $40 for.

This is a basic webcam. It does not have auto focus; nor is it focus-free. This means you should adjust the manual focus ring on the cam to make sure your subject is in focus. The focus range is rather small, but since you probably just sit there when it's working, it doesn't matter much. It does matter, however, if you want to use it as a motion detector, since it might be capturing videos of a thief in your home or cubicle out of focus, defeating its usefulness.

The included Creative WebCam Center application is very bloated at something like 50MB on installation, plus it installs no fewer than eight start-up services (without telling you). It includes video recording, motion detection, time-lapse video, and webcam. You can choose to compress the video capture; uncompressed video (the default setting) takes up 1MB per second! That's 60MB for every minute of video, or 3.5GB for a whole hour! But the video compression in Creative WebCam Center is very inefficient. Anything less than a Pentium 4 will slow your machine down to a crawl.

My biggest beef with the software Creative throws in our face is it contains too many hidden components with uncipherable names. It also installs tons of "get AOL for free" links and icons everywhere on your hard drive. Creative Labs has no shame whatsoever. I never asked for AOL, nor will I ever use AOL, an evil company that overbills its customers and provides the worst service possible (even Verizon is better as an ISP). I really don't like installating a 50MB application with tons of hidden components just to use the webcam. (Unfortunately, it's the same for Logitech, the biggest name in webcams.)

The cam does work very well with MSN Messenger, the best video conferencing software now available (and it's free). It also clips securely on my LCD monitor. But I really hate the spyware-like behavior of the Creative software suite.

In summary: consider Logitech, because they don't install tons of annoying "get AOL!!!" links on your PC. If you have to buy this, make sure you don't pay more than $15.

Review: No complaints here.
by: Corey R. Wardrop on date: January 2, 2006
Like most people, I read through all the reviews, and decided this was the best options for me to purchase.

I'm writing this review, because I just purchased one for my girlfriend.

If I HAD to pick a bad point, it would be that the stand has a "learning curve" to it. I remember being quite frustrated with it my first day or three, but in hindsight- that's my fault, not the camera's.

Someone mentioned video and audio out of synch. I've never tried it, but it does come with a handy little wire mic that seems to work just fine with other programs.

Also, the "Web Center" software it comes with is pretty neat. Enough to occupy about 30 minutes of "I wonder what this button does" anyway.

In conclusion, it seems to me that Creative products are hit or miss. And, (so far so good) this is a hit.

Review: Good camera for price
by: Kamlesh K. Sharma on date: December 18, 2005
Its certainly not cheap. But with $10 mail in rebate and around $32 it offers a very good value at price. The image is sharp and clear. It needs a good light during night though to get same clearness.

the external micorpohone is excellent with very clear and loud volume which can be heard in entire room and during night time may actually need reducing the volume.

would definately recommend it. Note : I bought it from Circuit city at $55 including tax , but returned it and ordered at amazon. Will need to see that this piece will deliver the same quality.

Review: Good Web Cam for the money!
by: S. Dorsey on date: November 29, 2005
I just purchased the Creative WebCam yesterday. I cannot speak for reviews where people complain that the WebCam broke. I haven't had it long enough to know. I was able to install the software with almost no problem. I had to remove Quicktime from my computer to get the install CD to work. I will download it again for free...no major problem. I was able to quickly understand the features of the web cam. You can focus, take pictures, record video etc... I am a black person and I found that the web cam will be too dark if you do not have adequate lighting in the room you're in. I just plugged in a desk lamp and used that while I was chatting online. It was easy to use the WebCam with Yahoo Messenger. It suited my purpose for the day anyway. I thought it was a good WebCam for the money. The image is pretty clear with adequate light and you can adjust the settings and brighten the picture that way too. I'd say it was a good purchase and worth it so far. I'll update this if my WebCam stops working, otherwise why delay, there was a rebate too. I'm satisfied. I updated this review because I've been using a desk lamp to make the picture more clear...light in the room is everything with web cams.

Review: Audio and video is out of synch
by: Adam Kautz on date: November 23, 2005
Like with the Logitech Communicate STX webcam I purchased (and returned), this camera had a delay of almost a 1/2 second between the audio and the video. I tried it with a Pentium 2 500 MHz, then a Pentium 3, 860 MHz, 512 MB RAM and then on an almost untouched, brand new P4 eMachine, 2.8 GHz, 768 MB RAM. In my opinion it would be better just to have audio than to have every single syllable out of synch with the video, which I find to be very distracting. In addition to this significant problem, the camera did not have a built-in mic and it had a lightwieght base which allowed it to easily slide around (and a couple times fall). However, the video display quality I did find to be good even in relatively low light conditions.

I have since returned the WebCam Live and purchased a Logitech QuickCam Fusion (which is about double the price of the Live) and I have been very satisfied. Audio and video synchronization on the Fusion seems to be just about perfect, even when running it on the P3, 860 MHz PC with a USB 1.0 port.

Review: Our first webcam
by: Eric C. Keith on date: November 23, 2005
This is the first webcam we have ever owned, so I cannot compare it to any other/previous models.

We bought this camera in order to have video conversations with our friends in England. They tell us that the video quality from our camera is very smooth and the sound quality is very good. They have a camera from a different manufacturer, and theirs comes across quite choppy at times.

We do not use the camera for taking pictures (I can't really imagine why anyone would), but have used it to make small "video emails", and the quality of these is quite good too.

If you are looking for a webcam to use for video conversations, you will not be disappointed with this one.

We were so pleased with it that we just ordered a second one to give as a present to my parents.

This is my first webcam and very happy with the picture quality and the microphone which comes along with the product.

Review: Image quality is good, easy to install, affordable.
by: Channappa Bangalore on date: September 27, 2005
I am using this webcam since the last 6 months. No issues whatsoever.
It was easy to install, took just minutes. Plz install the software and then connect the webcam as specified in the manual.
I use it for video chat and everybody says the image quality is good.
It sits nicely on top of my laptop display. does not slip or fall.
Also got a collar mike with this webcam which was plug and play. No drivers needed.
Creative Webcam Live will not disappoint you.

Review: Creative Labs WebCam Live - excellent value
by: T. Pospichal on date: September 13, 2005
This very reasonably priced camera with mic is good for both video and stills. I have only used standard indoor lighting and fairly close ranges and the pictures and audio are excellent. When reduced to lower resolutions, they have transmitted well in emails. Have not tried it yet in Instant Messages.

Review: Good webcam for the money
by: B. Peterson on date: September 7, 2005
I paid about $40 after rebate for this webcam and ended up also buying one for my parents who live out-of-state so that they could see and talk to their granddaughter. This is not a high-end webcam but it is very functional and easy to install. I have not been able to get the sound to work (but in fairness I haven't tried real hard to get it working). I've used a separate phone line for the audio. Overall a good value if you don't need all the bells and whistles.

Review: It's OK
by: S. DATTA on date: September 1, 2005
I will rate this webcam as a OK webcam. It got installed without any hassles the picture quality is also good but the frame changes are very slow. Sometime I think I am watching a movie in a less speed. I got this in a good deal in amazon , in about 20 bucks. On that price it is a ok webcam

Review: This Webcam COULD be OK
by: Kenneth W. Weigel on date: August 21, 2005
It is too bad that Creative did not finish the job they started.

First of all, the instructions that come with the unit are absolutely horrible. You wonder why you have no sound on the unit. The instructions do not tell you that you have to go into the menu and TURN IT ON! Now why in the world would you even want to turn it off, and why did Creative deliver the unit with it turned off? Sadly, no one could answer that. Secondly, while the picture was quite sharp, the audio and video were completely out of synch. I installed this unit on THREE high end computers and every single one of them had the same problem, so I know it was not the computers or the graphics card. I emailed tech support AND I called them as well, and tech support told me yes, this was a problem with mismatching audio and video codecs, and there was nothing they could do. I find that there were at least 5 video codecs I could select, but no guidance was given as to which one would work with an equal number of audio codecs I could have selected.

Sadly, I sent the unit back, since while the picture was good, and the audio was OK (after I got it turned on) I was unable to synch video and audio with any combination of video and audio codecs that I tried.

So I sent it back. There is more to the story. I got another email from tech support telling me they could help me. I wrote back and said it was too late. They told me that if they had known what my problem was, they had a solution! I told them that I had contacted them twice, and that both email and live support had told me nothing could be done.

So if you want, you can give this Webcam a try. If you can get the video/audio to synch, it will work well. I could not do it. Interestingly, I have a cheap Logitech Webcam which has exactly none of these problems, but the picture is clearly inferior to the Creative unit. At least, the audio and video synch well..........

I have an Apple iSight for my iBook and was expecting a nightmare trying to get this camera set up on my boyfriends PC and then more trouble getting them to see each other. To my surprise we plugged both cameras in and they worked flawlessly with no effort. I was also impressed by the sound quality and and video quality, especially when compared to the price of the iSight.

Great picture and microphone. The drawback is if you have a DSL line instead of a T line, the video is delayed about a few seconds, but nothing to do with the product. Great for the price.

Review: Good Basic Camera, Be Sure to Activate Sound in Software
by: Good Business on date: August 3, 2005
As a first-time webcam user, I found this product met expectations. It mounts well on flat-panel monitor, but needed a strip of Velco to mount on old-style monitor. Resolution is reasonably good. Installing software was easy, but you will need to activate the
sound function after installation (seemed odd that the default
setting was no sound). Lapel mike works OK, and is likely better
than one integral with camera. We are using it with MSN Messenger and no problems, as long as you have high-speed internet access. These cameras do not work well with dial-up connections. The snapshot feature is handy. All in all, it rates a 4, and is likely the best of the group at this price point.

Review: Very Cool CAM!
by: A. Marquez on date: August 3, 2005
I just got this cam a few weeks ago and it rocks! The digital transfer rate and the snapshot photo's are HOT! It has very cool features and I'm using it a lot with my yahoo messenger and it just makes the experience of chatting SO much better. Overall I think it was a great buy! I'd buy another one If this one got stolen... LOL.

Review: Satisfied Customer....!! Buy One and Be One Urself Tooooo..!!!
by: M. Motwani on date: July 6, 2005
Let me start with my expectations.
1.Sharp Picture Quality
2.Good Frame Rate
3.Working Microphone
4.Clippable to my laptop

Now results
1.Very satisfied with the picture quality, very sharp..met my expectations....much much better that Logitech Quickcam and others in the league.
2. Since I have used on dial-up connection, I have got reasonably decent frame rate but yet to try on high speed connection, but quite satisfied.
3. Microphone works well, delivering best quality voice across to the other side.
4. It clips well to the laptop which was one of my biggeest worries earlier but this masterpiece has performed well here as well.

All those on the look-out for a fairly decent web-cam ..this is the right choice ...NO troubles whatsoever with the installation.

Have been using for almost daily for past one week.

Review: I LOVE THIS WEB CAM!!!
by: Angela Jones on date: June 28, 2005
I just love this web cam!!! The picture quality is very clear and so is the sound. I use Windows XP and didn't have any difficulty at all with the software or hardware installation. It was very EASY!! It also comes with some very fun ArcSoft software so you can make your own video e-cards. It's an exceptional quality camera package - especially for the price!!! I definitely reccomend this web cam!!!

Review: Great Camera
by: Ellie on date: April 7, 2005
The quality of this camera is -excellent- for this price range. I am quite satified with it. Still image captures come out clear and video captures are also clear and fast. As a webcam, I am impressed how fast it picks up movements. I use it on Yahoo messenger. Super-mode would turn on and the quality of the cam is lifelike. However, the downside about this webcam is Yahoo tends to crash once in awhile. It might be a different for other messengers with webcam features. It may be Yahoo that isn't working right and not the camera since it also kept crashing my old cam and pc. Another downside, is the camera tends to fall a lot. It does not clip well to the flat panel or notebook. It has a moveable base but is better placed on a flat surface. Other than that, if your looking for a good quality camera this would be a good one to consider. :)

Review: Software is useless!!!
by: The Pistoleer on date: February 28, 2005
I bought this camera to use for motion detection as an extra
security device at home to email me if motion is detected.
The jocks at creative have helpfully failed to include the option for smtp authentication so no email you try and send
will ever get through unless you have one of the rare few email
accounts where the smtp server does not require a password, if
you do it wont last for long.
[...]Aside from that the camera is good but I'd suggest getting another one with software that is useful because this is a big
feature.

Review: Comment on Creative Labs WebCam Live!
by: phoenix on date: January 27, 2005
This is the third Creative Labs webcam I have bought. Compared to the previous ones (a first generation webcam and a more recent Pro eX), this one produces better pictures - brighter and better color rendering. It works well in low light environment. So as far as performance is concerned, I am pretty happy. However, if you're looking for a webcam that can be SECURELY mounted on your laptop, this one is definitely not for you. This webcam does NOT have a clip or a snap-on mechanism. It does allow you to put the webcam on laptop computer's display panel without falling off if the computer is on a leveled surface without any kind of movement. Even that is little bit shaky if the dispaly panel is thin (like my Dell Inspiron 700m). I give this webcam a 4 star instead of 5 mainly for this reason.

A note about installation (Windows XP with SP2):
This is not a big deal but I thought I would just share with everyone in case someone gets confused. Like other Creaive Labs stuff I have bought before (webcams and MP3 player), the installation procedure in the manual doesn't quite match what you actually experience. The manual indicates after you finish installing the software (drivers and apps), then you plug in the webcam and Windows will discover the hardware and you go from there. In reality, you will be asked to plug in the webcam before you finish the software installation and you never go through the Windows hardware discovery process.

Review: Great for seeing loved ones.
by: Damien Alvarado on date: January 4, 2005
I bought two of these cameras, one for myself and one for my parents that live in CA (I'm in WA). I moved away recently and wanted to see them more often than I can afford to fly. This camera does a great job and the mic works well too.

A previous reviewer said the video was blurry and slow, I am using MSN messenger and the problem is the broadband connection. When I used the camera on my home LAN to have a video conference between my laptop and desktop the image was great. Clear, smooth very little delay. When I use the camera to talk to my parents there is lag and fast motion causes blurring. To me this is acceptable. If I wanted to pay hundreds of dollars for a business class connection the image would be better but thats too much money.

The voice communication is pretty much equivalent to phone. Almost no delay and very easy to hear. As far as the echo the previous reviewer mentioned his speakers are probably turned up too loud. Every time you hear someone call into a radio station and the DJ tells them to turn down their stereo it is because their speakers are up too high and are causing an echo. If you use the mic in conjuction with headphones it works great.

For $50 I couldn't be happier with this product. MSN integrates flawlessly with it and so far it is all free. The voice quality is close to a dedicated phone line and cuts down on my long distance calls.

Review: good deal
by: Yun Feng Zhu on date: October 25, 2004
I have been looking for such a webcam for a long time because I can't find a cheap product with good quality and brand.
This webcam is what I wanted although it is USB 1.1, but it doesn't influnce the speed even when I used it to talk with my friend in China. Furthermore,I get my order in only 2 days with free shipping. Easy to install and use. And I love Creative very much because it's rebate probably working. @^:^@

The only weak point of this webcam is when I set up the "banding filter" at "outdoor" model, the webcam seems to be a little dark although in this setting will make the motion without delay. So, I give it 4 stars. Hope it can help!
