Review: Good Buy!

This is for sure one of the best buys I'v got involved in. Very good web camera, not too good for the still picture feature, but excellent for online chat programs such as 'SKYPE' & 'MSN'. Good Buy. A++++

There is nothing too amazing about this webcam, standard features with reasonable frame rate. I've bounced it around since having it and it still works fine.

Review: excellent piture
by: Hynek Hermann on date: November 10, 2006
This is a neat little webcam. Picture is phenomenal. I mean it. Most importantly, there are no blue screen of death issues here. Sadly, it is a tad overpriced...I paid $95 for this webcam that has no avatars, no automatic focus (yep, you have to focus yourself...), and no echo cancelling feature.

Still, this is a sturdy little thing that delivers outstanding picture.

Review: Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000
by: Carmen Negrea on date: August 23, 2006
This is my 2nd purchase of Logitech QuickCam Pro4000. I am a Logitech fan and purchased 6 webcams so far as gifts for my family and friends. I am very pleased with the product and especially wit Logitech Pro4000. When I heard that the Pro5000 came to market I went and bought it to see if it's better than the one I had. I was disappointed with the Pro5000. The image seemed clearer that on the Pro4000 on my side of the cam; however, it looked blured and weird at the other end according to my family. The software was awful also. I have a new laptop with Windows XP, so I should not have a problem of compatibility. I was frustrated with Pro5000 and finally took it back to the store. So, I strongly recommend that you buy the Pro4000, if you can still find it; I noticed it's out of stock almost everywhere.

Hope my advice helps.

Review: Awful on yahoo
by: M. J Lane on date: May 18, 2006
The first thing I want to say is that the difference in quality you get out of this cam is very evident depending on what IM program you use. I used Yahoo for a while with family and we were all about ready to toss the thing in the garbage. However, since Logitech recommends MSN messenger we thought we'd give it a shot. Huge difference. The images were more clear, the sound was better and there were fewer "freezes".

However, it was still hardly outstanding and you must be prepared to spend quite a bit of time with your family and friends tweaking the distance of the cam from their face, the sound levels, the volume on their speakers, etc. And if they change any of that the next time you videoconference you'll need to start over. This thing is NOT plug and play for most people.

Face tracking is utterly useless. I don't know what miracle people are using to get it to work but for me all it does is make the cam jump all over the place. If you're impossibly frustrated with it try switching to MSN Messenger, go through the sound setup, see if that does the trick, if not then move the cam closer to your face and then turn down the volume on your speakers.

Review: Great Looking and Functional!
by: James H on date: May 2, 2006
Looks great on my desk/computer/monitor. I had it for 3 years now, but w/ the LCD monitor it has to sit on top of my computer which sits on my desk. the VGA mode is cool. Captures huge picture. Auto brightness control.

Review: A good device
by: David T. Price on date: January 31, 2006
I bought this web cam for my son and daughter-in-law who live hours from us. We have used the QuickCam and generally it does a good job. With a lot of motion the picture is a little fussy but not problems otherwise. Setup was easy. Emailing videos is easy. and live video setup was easy.

Review: Great WebCam....
by: Bruno Freitas on date: January 29, 2006
Lots of people do not know the difference of CMOS sensor and CCD sensor... and that is the biggest impact on the quality of the images they will have with their webcam...

The QuickCam Pro 400 has a CCD (which is the best sensor) and this means a great light sensitivity.

I was amazed with the quality of this camera, and believe me that all my friends mention the same thing... This is perfect for Web Conferences... I use it on Skype, MSN, and to record some movies with the software that comes with it.. Quality is Great !!

The Microphone on it good as well... It may pick up the background noise, depending where it is located of course.. but in the overall it has a good quality...

Another simple but real handy feature is the plastic cover that goes over the lens and will prevent it from beeing on and filming when you really don't want it...

Also, it comes with two goods monitor (or shelf) stands.. CRT or LCD...
The list goes on with Face Tracking, Zoom and other stuff...

You will Love this camera... Just as I love mine...
:-)

Review: Excellent choice for small businesses
by: D. Brennan on date: January 28, 2006
I purchased three as a test. One went to Detroit, one to Orlando and one stayed in NY with me. My two remote sales people, neither of whom are techies, had the cameras set up with their laptops in 15-20 minutes. It took us 20-30 minutes to figure out the volume settings on one of the Dell laptops and then we tried our first internet video chat. It worked like a dream. The built in video phone call software is amazingly easy to use, and it seems impervious to firewall problems (must use port 80).

After a week I purchased 5 more and now we all have one. Four people have it attached to laptops and four have it attached to desktops. We all use XP, fully patched.

My people love it AND our phone bills are down around 10%. More importantly, my remote sales people feel like they are more a part of the company, and it looks like the people in my office have stepped up their response times to requests made by the sales people because they can actually look each other in the eye.

I logged on today to buy 3 more cmaeras - this time for buyers at key customers. Let's see how things work when they can video conference with me right from their desk when they need something. If I dodn't think that the installation process was idiot-proof, I would never try this with my customers - none of whom have CS degrees.

Review: The clearest and fastest cam i have found yet!!
by: Chrissyplum on date: January 1, 2006
I use my logitech webcam every single day in the line of work that i do. It is by far the best webcam on the market for the price. It is super clear...has zoom ...and has a great built-in microphone. I wouldn't buy any other webcam to replace this one ever. This cam will be with me for a very, very long time.
Honestly, the only downfall of the cam which really isn't a downfall at all..is the face tracking. I don't like it...but i'm sure other people do. It just moves too much for me. Other than that...this webcam is top of the line...THE BEST!!

Review: video is clear but the color is fade.
by: V. Sathirapatya on date: November 29, 2005
I bought both Logitech quickcam Pro 4000 and quickcam notebook Deluxe at the same time. Here I will discuss only Pro 4000. The video of Pro 4000 is very clear when I chatted with friend in Los Angeles. My friend said that the sound and video is very good.

However, when I chatted with friend from international, the video is stopped...It may be because of the connection. When in the low light condition, the quality of video is grainy but still see the activities that I monitored (my baby). (However, this is better than quickcam notebook deluxe. The Deluxe, when is in the low light, it's very dark and can't identify the activities from the video.)

And when doing conference call over internal LAN to another computer, its sound is echo. I can hear my voice from far away.

I got this one is quite expensive (79$). When compared with Logitech quickcam fusion ($99), I think the Fusion is better. No problem with sound and ultra-wide field of view. and when compared with Creative web cam Ultra, the pixel and color of video of Ultra is far better too. The still image of Ultra is far more clearer. But the Ultra is not compatible with my Labtop. Thus, I choose pro 4000 instead.

Review: Logitech Rebates are deceptive
by: Nutterbutter on date: November 28, 2005
I purchased this product and so far am happy with it. I do, however, believe that Logitech as a company is deceptive in it's rebate allowance. I typically review rebate information very closely, as I know that rebates include as many restrictions as possible to avoid to company paying them out. I read the Amazon rebate description carefully a couple of times, and felt I could get the rebate upon purchase. When I went to Logitech to fill out the rebate, there was additional information restrictions that said you had to purchase BOTH a desktop AND a notebook webcam, and that both had to be on the same receipt. I found this to be not only deceptive, but also a little ridiculous, as I wonder how many people would actually buy BOTH a desktop and a notebook webcam.
The best advice I can give you is assume that you will pay the price without the rebate, and count yourself lucky if a rebate is ever provided.

Review: Great camera, good price
by: J. Augustine on date: November 19, 2005
I bought two of these cameras when my girlfriend was going to move overseas for a few months. We were not disappointed! Using the camera/microphone along with MSN messanger we are able to have really nice, fluid conversations. There is little to no delay on the voice, and the video really depends on your internet connection. Most of the time it's very smooth, only blurring if people move quickly.

When I bought it i got a rebate for $40 i think, and that's what really influenced me to buy. Maybe wait for the 5000 to come out with a rebate now? I'm not sure. But i definitely recommend this camera and any future upgrades of the same model!

As for people trying to communicate overseas, skype is a good program. And Lingo is by far the best broadband phone company I've ever found. Free equipment, $20 a month for unlimited minutes to all of the US, Canada, and Western Europe!! If you get referred you get a free month and an extra $25 credit. It really saves money and calling cards!

Review: Perfect for international communication
by: T. Metcalf on date: November 2, 2005
I bought this last christmas and I have to wonder where my life was without it. I use windows XP and it was super easy to install. It works perfectly with MSN messenger and Yahoo messenger. I live in the US and have family back in England I don't get to see very often. This webcam is a perfect solution as I can chat with them online. I bought my brother the exact same model for his birthday and we chat with it all the time. I recommended my Mum to get one, and we can now video conference with each other without having to type a word as it has a built in microphone. Both sound and picture quality are superb and it has a user friendly zoom tool. This comes in very handy as we have a 4 month old that the grandparents constantly want to see. I would definetely recommend this to anybody that is looking for a good quality webcam that is very user friendly.

I just ordered this Camera for $18.01 US from Amazon! From the reviews I have read here about the QuickCam Pro 4000, I think I will be very, very satisfied! Even at triple the price I figure it would still be a great deal.

Review of this product will be coming after I receive it.

After reading tons of reviews not only from Amazon.com, but other sources, I took the chance and bought this webcam. It was very easy to install, and had it going in the matter of minutes. It is a great cam, takes stills as well as video/audio shorts to email to friends and family. It mounts anywhere, even flat monitors with ease. I am thrilled with this webcam.

Review: QuickCam is fun
by: Ann Noll on date: September 28, 2005
I ordered the Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 after reading reviews on several internet sites. It is easy to use, provides a good picture and has only a slight delay between voice and picture. It came already connected to its flat base and it is easy to detach and switch to the flexible base which allows it to perch atop a flat panel monitor. The booklet that comes with the QuickCam is not very informative and I had a question that the website didn't answer. I found the person I spoke to at customer service to be very helpful. We've started using the QuickCam for e-mails to our grandchildren and expect to use it more, as we get more comfortable talking into the camera.

Review: Great overall value, but "fixed focus" is a potential issue
by: Lord Melville on date: September 27, 2005
I found this camera to be extremely easy to install and use. It's great for use when chatting with friends and family. The only issue I have with the camera is its fixed focus: the camera's focus cannot be adjusted, and thus the objects of interest must be within about 1-4 feet of the camera in order to be in relatively sharp focus. This can be a problem if, for example, one wants to use the webcam to show views out a window, or across a large room; such views will be distinctly fuzzy / out of focus.

Review: Great Webcam
by: Kaylux on date: September 27, 2005
This is a great webcam. The only reason i gave it 4 stars was because the pin that connects it to the base keeps loosening. So you have to tighten it often. As for the cam, its great. It has a face tracking feature and a night light feature for dark rooms. Its a very good buy.

Review: Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000
by: D. Rich on date: September 26, 2005
The Logitech 4000 is the first web cam I have ever owned so my ability to compare is limited. It was easy to set up and my father purchased the same model and they work nice. The software is good. You have to learn how to set the audio/video settings on Messenger for it to work as the settings seem to undo themselves when I disconnect the camera from the UBS. for the 70 bucks I paid, I am very happy with this web cam. The built in microphone works great as well.

Review: Worth the price (50$)
by: Murthy Bhavaraju on date: September 26, 2005
If there is any cam that can closely approximate the performance of isight (on a mac) this is it. Extremely clean image in various lightings and the autofocus thing seems to work. The best cam that i used in some time, logitech came a long a way. I paid about 50$ for it and it is worth every penny.

Greatest thing that any homeowner should have to communicate with all family ties thru out the world;....and it's so reasonably priced. Atta-boy to "Logitech" PC accessories.

You can even add video to your eBay auctions. (I don't have a eBay account, so I didn't know anything about that) The sound quality is ok, not perfect but it does the job. I like the design of the webcam it's black and sliver with a shape like a eye, the frame rate is 30 frames per second, this webcam software has lots of formats for stills: BMP, TIFF, JPEG, PCX, PNG, TGA, PSD (3.0) and when you use QuickCam to e-mail vidI my new Logitech 961239-0403 QuickCam Pro 4000 WebCam, because of all the features it has. Review: Good camera - free services have small screen
by: Michael G. Goss on date: September 17, 2005
This is a good camera...had it about 1 month with no problems. Bought 1 for my parents who live an hour away so they can see the grandkids more often (same for other family who live about 5 hours away).

They tell you it works with AIM Video and related free services...which it does. they just don't tell you the picture on the free video services is small...2 inch by 2 inch. If you want a nice size picture while video chatting, you'll need to pay for a monthly service like Logitech Video.

Otherwise AIM Video has been the easiest to use so far...basically free videophone capability.

Review: Not bad, but confusing.
by: Ms. Victor Tsan on date: September 17, 2005
The camera works. Installation is easy. This is not the best camera and regarding picture and video quality - just average.
The specification for this camera are confusing. The camera has "Face tracking" option and of course when I read it I expected same face tracking as the Orbit webcam (real tracking). Apperantly it does not do a tracking - it just plays with zoom in/out and not always successful.
Other than this - average webcam.

Review: Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000
by: John Scott Pilch on date: September 16, 2005
Overall, the Quickcam is okay. It doesn't have great resolution. (It's not my computer... Dell 2.8ghz, 512mb memory, 40 and 120 gig HD and upgraded video card) It isn't able to put the video to fit the size of the screen. Also, the software is very intrusive. It tries to set the quickcam as the default for everything!!! Would I buy again? Not for the $60 er so dollars I paid. I thought it would come with some cool software like my other ligitch cam came with... like the ability to do stopmotion productions and the ability to have it monitor a room with motion activation. Feel free to e-mail me with any specific questions.

Review: This is the 3rd one I've Purchased -- love it
by: NDG on date: September 14, 2005
This is the 3rd one that I have purchased. I have bought one for myself, my mother and my sister in law. The web cam is easy to use with a clear picture and audio. This web cam can also make video's that you can send as email attachments. Its extremely easy to do and its really cool to send videos to friends and family that live far away and you don't get to see often.

The only complaint that we have about this web cam is that when you go to set it up, we had some problems getting it to work. After playing around with it, trying to reach logitech and reading the help at their web site we found we had to download a patch in order for it to work. Once we did that everything worked great...but I must admit it is a pain in the neck to find the appropriate patch.

Otherwise, a great product and I highly recommend it...obviously, since I've purchased 3 of them.

Review: great product, but upset with amazon customer service
by: C.J. on date: September 11, 2005
Unfortunately, I threw out the box before I could get the UPC code I needed for the $20 rebate Logitech was offering. I emailed Amazon's customer service to see if they could help; maybe they had the UPC code on file somewhere. All they did was send me some vague email(which I suspect did not have a human author, instead computer-generated) asking me to contact the manufacturer. Logitech is not going to know the UPC code of the camera I bought; that's why they ask for it in the rebate submission. Thanks, Amazon, and I've been a loyal customer!

As for the Quickcam, it's great. Works well with windows messenger and MSN messenger. I bought one for my mom and one for myself so my daughter could get to see her grandmother who lives in Florida

Review: Okay, but not Terrific
by: Steve Green on date: September 6, 2005
I was hoping this camera would blow the socks off my old Intel PC Camera. Well, it doesn't. It's okay. If my old camera would have worked with XP I wouldn't have bothered getting this supposedly upgraded camera. It's 5 years newer, and no better.

For full motion animation you have to go for the worst possible resolution. FOrget all those pixels it claims. You can't get full motion with the larger/crisper picture.

And it's not my PC. I have a relatively new one, 3 ghz and 1gb of memory, so all the horsepower I should need.

Does the camera work? Yes. Did I have problems getting it to work? Yes. Worked for one day, then got hosed somehow, and had to de-install then re-install. It's worked fine since then.

The still photos look terrific, and you do get the greater resolution with stills. Too bad the full motion video can't be at a better setting.

Review: Pretty good product
by: spawnocula on date: September 2, 2005
Good Product, Easy installation. Only issue is the built in microphone; can be hissy when doing conference call over internal LAN to another computer. Simple solution was to disable USB Microphone under Device Manager and buy yourself a regular noise cancelling mic and attach to your sound card/onboard sound port.

Review: THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT. Buy NOW, before 31 August 2005!!!
by: C. Garrett on date: August 10, 2005
This is loooong, I know, but bear with me if you will; I think it'll really help. (Note: $20 Logitech rebate offered for the month of August 2005-- Jump on it!)

Pros:
1) Best image clarity on the market. I have Comcast High-speed Internet and use it with their "Video Mail" software to outstanding result!
2) Ease of set-up and installation for inexperienced and experienced alike.
3) Simple user interface (software).

Cons:
(Note: all 'cons' are of a relatively insignificant nature, and in no way interfere with the actual performance of this webcam.)

1) "Flimsy stand"- Explanation: I think most users are referring to a small, screw-in piece, which connects the camera to the base. This piece has a tendency to loosen with movement, but like I said, "screw-in" -- solution? ==> tighten it back down! If you are one of those people who like to frequently move your camera about for better angles and such, a single droplet (and I do mean ONE DROPLET) of your favorite brand of cyanoacrylate adhesive (aka- "Krazy Glue" or "Super Glue") applied to the threads with the tip of toothpick should solve your woes. I say only one droplet because this piece is made to be replaceable, and allows for a wider array of mounting options, if you get too "krazy" with the "Krazy Glue" these options will no longer be available to you should you need them; or if you break the piece somehow, you'd have to buy a complete new stand from Logitech, rather than just ordering a new connector.

2) "The microphone is too sensitive." Explanation: Granted, the mic IS very sensitive, but is this really a problem? Depending on your application, it could prove beneficial. Besides, the mic sensitivity can be adjusted via the included software, and the reality of webcam mics is that very few (if ANY) are reliable for 2-way web communications; you end up with a lot of overlap, echo, and "Whats?" and "Huhs?" You might as well expect to invest in a headset; even the inexpensive ones provide marked improvement over the built-in webcam mics (which are really for room or ambient noise collection anyway). [Addition: if you should decide to stick with the built-in mic, I've found that it helps to position the privacy shade directly in front of it for less background noise interference (fans, typing, etc.)]

3) "The snap shots aren't clear." Explanation: Well, no solution to this one. While the camera does take 1.3 megapixel snaps, have you ever really looked at a 1.3 megapixel photo? They ain't too pretty. [Lighting and distance play heavily into this issue too.] If it's clear snap shots you want, don't look to this webcam, or ANY webcam for that matter, buy a true digital camera instead. The snapshot function of this camera should be considered a fun extra, not a functional main reason for purchase.

4) "The instructions aren't clear enough." Explanation: The camera and included software are simple to install and use. Don't be afraid to tinker with the settings, and customize them to your suiting -- You Cannot Hurt It. Just get in there and "tweak".

5) "The USB cable is too heavy." Explanation: Come on now, "the cable is too heavy"? A heavier gauge USB cable is a good thing people. The thicker the wires inside, the faster and clearer the data transfer. I think this complaint comes back to the screw-in piece mentioned above in "con #1" (see above). Like reviewer, Adrian Derbyshire said, adjusting the slack in the cable solves this one just fine.

Now for my personal tidbits:
I ran into a bit of a problem the first time that I ordered this one online. A certain online retailer, who will unfortunately go unnamed (as per Amazon's guidelines), features an image of this camera, in the version of its retail packaging WITH the flat panel clip included. Well, WATCH OUT FOLKS! If you need the flat panel clip (and I DO recommend it- much more versatile and stable than the hard plastic version), pay attention to the packaging and seller's description and listing, and if in doubt, contact the seller prior to purchase. The "flat panel clip" or LCD monitor adapter, or other similar description, is the second, `extra' stand included with SOME versions of this camera. It is the flexible, rubber coated stand that Amazon shows with this camera in their description There are apparently two versions of retail packaging available for this webcam, one with the flat panel clip, and one without. Here's what to consider:

[NOTE: See Correction Below!!!]
>If the retail box itself is primarily BLUE, and mentions some included Yahoo! software, the flat panel clip Should Be Included --
Again, Blue box + Yahoo! Software = Flat panel clip (in addition to the first, hard plastic version).

>If, on the other hand, the box is mostly GREEN, and there is no mention of included Yahoo! software, DO NOT EXPECT the flat panel clip to be included. Apparently, Logitech updated their packaging shortly after the camera's release by including the additional stand and changing the software a bit. Most retailers aren't even aware of this distinction folks, and I have found no difference in price related to this issue.
So, Green box + NO Mention of Yahoo! Software = NO Flat Panel Clip.

Now for my initial reason for this 'dissertation' -- PRICE. I have to agree with reviewer, Adrian Derbyshire again; buy it from Amazon [PERIOD]. If I had, I truly believe that I would have had far less hassle with my flat panel clip issue. Plus, their price is much better than most, as well is their reputation. Additionally, for the month of August 2005, Logitech is offering a $20 rebate on the QuickCam Pro 4000! Couple that with Amazon's current 25% off sale price and you're looking at $47.44!!(before shipping). That's less expensive than many other webcams of much lesser quality!!! At this price, I'm ordering another one for my in-laws in Germany so that we can see them as clearly as they get to see us!

That's a wrap. Sorry this is so lengthy, but I sincerely hope that it helps you with your decision, and can help others to avoid the hassle that I experienced with the flat panel clip issue.
[...]
Well, apparently there are MORE THAN 2 VERSIONS OF THE PACKAGING for this camera! As stated in my original post, I took advantage of the sale price and rebate offer and ordered another QuickCam Pro 4000 from Amazon.

When the order arrived (3 days prior to estimated btw, and that's with FREE super saver shipping!) I was a bit stunned to see a green box instead of the blue one that I expected. I immediately thought "Oh No!", but was happy to see that even though the box was GREEN, the flat panel clip WAS INCLUDED. Additionally, there is no Yahoo! software, rather MSN Messenger was included instead (Go Figure?). [I'll try to get an image posted of the this packaging in the next few days]

Turns out, the customer service rep. that I spoke with at Logitech was mistaken about the packaging for this camera. She specifically told me that there were 2 styles of retail packaging and outlined the differences that I originally posted, but obviously, there are more than 2 styles.

So, bottom line is:
---> You'll just have to call your retailer and specifically ask if the flat panel clip is included or not. <---

Hope this clarifies any confusion that may have been created. One would think that the manufacturer's representative would provide accurate information,... perhaps not.
My apologies.

Best,
C. Garrett

Amazon says that this item has a video monitoring system. This is not true. I sepnt more money on this camera because the description led me to beleive that this camera had the software for video monitering. You have ot buy extra software to do this.

Review: The only webcam you'll really need
by: Totobenki on date: August 3, 2005
If you are thinking about getting this webcam, just get it. This is one of the best quality webcam you can get. It's got 30fps and you will never need more than that if you live in the US where broadband access is much slower than other more fortunate countries.
As stated by other reviewers, the picture quality can not be superceded by any other webcams. Logitec makes solid products and they have done just so with this one.
I have not experienced the "flimsy" stand. I guess people are refering to the flexible rubber stand that is to be used for laptops and the like; however, if you are using crt, you can just put the camera on top of the monitor with the less flimsy stand that comes with the kit. Even with the LCD stand, it tends to balance pretty well if you bend the rubber just right. In anycase, I don't think it is much of a problem.
Furthermore, the mic is sensitive. I don't know why people raised this as a con. If anything, I would want the mic to be more sensitive than having to have to crank it up a lot. The background noise is not much of a problem unless you are washing your dishes and talking on the webcam at the same time or something. I use skype and MSN messenger 7.0 regularly with this camera. Skype does not echo at all even when the camera sitting on top of my dell laptop with the sounds coming out of the laptop speakers. With MSN, unforfunately, the software is not as good as VoIP skype, so I have to resort to putting on my headphones or making a bit of an adjustment with the external speakers.
So, all in all, just get it. You won't regret it.

Review: My experience with the Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000
by: D. Waters on date: August 2, 2005
We are happy with the quality of the pictures, but I have to agree with some of the other negative comments about the flimsy stand and the weight of the cable making it hard to get it set just right perched on my laptop. Once you get it setup, it seems to stay in place fine, but it does feel very flimsy. If you plan to use it at home and can place the flat stand on a flat surface, you shouldn't have any problems.

I take it with me out of town each week and it is a joy to see the family, even if only on screen. If you travel alot, or want to see family from afar, get a webcam, you will not be sorry.

As I shopped around for a webcam, I was obsessed with getting one with the highest screen resolution and frames/second only to find out that I cant even use its highest setting (we connect through Yahoo messenger) because Yahoo does not allow me to use their supercam mode with a higher resolution. I suspect it bases this off of my internet connection speed (or my 1.0 slower USB port), though when we connect, we are both using a highspeed cable connection, much faster than a home DSL link. If you have a slow speed connection at home (DSL or slower), I wouldn't worry as much about the screen resolution, just make sure the one you buy has a CCD video chip and can handle 30 frames/second (the jerkyness of the frames affects the perceived quality in addition to the resolution).

Review: Excellent Camera
by: Michael on date: July 12, 2005
I bought this camera on the web to stay in touch with my parents when my wife and I moved to a new city. My parents have a DSL link and I have a DSL link to the net. The image that my parents see generated by this camera is of surprising quality. They bought a logitech camera--the orbit one that employs mechanical face tracking. For some reason, their camera produces an image with a much slower frames per second. When I see them, it is not so good. The voice is as good as the average cell phone call. We used MSN messenger over the net. Yahoo messenger did not give us more than one frame per second which is useless. We find the face tracking technology can be a bit cumbersome and generally turn it off. Sometimes it locks into something behind the person rather than their face. My parents are going to try an purchase the 4000 camera and will take back the orbit version.

Review: Easy to install, very good image quality, solid software
by: kc on date: July 8, 2005
I'm using a webcam for an industrial application. I though I'd need a higher end IP camera. I tested a few webcams first, and the image quality of the Logitech QC Pro 4000 was good enough that I didn't need to move to a several hundred dollar device. None of the others were. I'm impressed that they've been able to get this quality of image in so inexpensive a device.

Pros:
- Image quality, as stated. Very good, clear, crisp. Videos I've taken with this are great for a webcam. Comparing to other webcams, others were much more grainy.

- Installation couldn't be easier. I'm using win xp and this is plug and play. Once it's installed, you can just open MyComputer and the webcam is there to be doubleclicked, just like one of your hard drives.

- The software that comes bundled with it is flexible and easy to use.

- The new base is more solid and holds the camera better -- the model from a few months ago was a little loose.

- Nice long ubs cable... so you won't need an extension

Cons:
- Only one, and it probably won't effect most people's use. I need to use two of these at once for my application, and the software can't zoom on both of them -- only one can be zoomed and the other stays fixed. But if you're using this as a conventional single camera this won't be a problem for you.

Highly recommend.

Review: Superb web cam
by: Aldo Giannone on date: July 5, 2005
After doing some serious research before buying this webcam, I must confess I was a bit turned off by all those reviewers which had problems installing drivers.
I am particulary worried about driver issues because they're not constant so basically you have a webcam but you can't rely on it, in my opinion that's worse than simply not having one.

Anyway, getting to the point, I run Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. And must say that the installation was very simple, fast and accurate. Only 5 minutes after opening the box I was already using the cam on MSN.

I was also a bit worried about those comments regarding the stability of the cam, mine is fine (at least 2 months after buying it and using it frequently), it also came with a special hook for TFT monitors which is also handy for normal CRT monitors (don't know if all are currently coming with this extra).

At last but most important: the picture quality, this is what a web cam is all about and I must say this one delivers great quality and flexibility in different light conditions. The zoom is very precise and the picture will remain very clear.

Negative issues:
-The microphone is very sensitive, so as mentioned in other reviews it will capture most sounds (perhaps even those undesired ones). Yet I managed to find an optimum recording volume and seems to work fine.
-The microphone has had issues while using voice calls on MSN. Sometimes I have been told by friends they can't hear anything. This is one of those tricky issues that comes and goes, perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
-The auto focus feature was not very useful. Sometimes it focused other objects but not me, however you can disabled it, or you can get some practice with it so it will focus only yourself.

Well that's all I have to say about this product which so far has been great and in fact will probably be a huge step in terms of quality and reliability for any who is thinking to get a new web cam.

Review: Installation Nightmare...
by: John Webb on date: June 1, 2005
After reading the glowing reviews, I got this camera for my XP Service Pack 2 system (btw, an ASUS A7NX8-E Deluxe motherboard). Following the instructions, I attempted to install the software before plugging the camera in. In fact, I downloaded the latest software (v 8.4.6 build 1016A) from the Logitech website first. The initial attempt to install failed during the process to install the drivers. It loaded several files and then attempted to "Uninstall Device" (?!!?). The Logitech program it tried to run, DELDEV.EXE, died, generating a system warning (ie. "Device Removal Module Died! Send Report To Microsoft ?"). It then retries, dies, retries, dies, forever. Had to finally kill the install process in the Task Manager. Nice.

In looking on the Logitech Support website, they recommend doing a "Clean Boot Process" prior to install. This involves running the utility, MSCONFIG, and doing a "selective startup", turning off all Windows configuration files and all Windows Services and rebooting the machine. Jeez, I've never had to do this with any other software installation -- ever! Seems excessive and burdensome, especially for a USB device. But, I tried it. I had the same installation failure. I tried doing this again, but clearing out all temp files first (another suggestion). No go.

I've spent hours pouring over the Logitech Knowledge Base and User Discussion Groups. I haven't found a good solution. But I've seen lots of discussion of folks having problems with XP Service Pack 2. Some folks report success with XP SP2, but there are also a lot of folks having a frustrating time. Looks like the QuickCam software is not completely stable/reliable under XP Service Pack 2. Waiting to hear back from Logitech Tech Support -- but I'm not holding my breath for a speedy resolution.

I've just about given up. I went into the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs utility to clean up the *partially* installed QuickCam software. The Uninstall program for the QuickCam software dies with an exception in SetupDLL/SetupDLL.cpp(454) (ie. line 454 of the C++ code for SetupDLL). So I've got this crappy, half-installed software I can't clear out of my system. Gosh, thanks Logitech.

I know people are using this camera successfully and getting great results. But I can't get past the initial software install (haven't even plugged the camera in the USB port yet). I would recommend that anyone considering purchasing this camera for XP Service Pack 2 first visit the Logitech support website, and search through the Knowledge Base and the User Discussion Groups.

Disappointed, John

Review: Not very sharp
by: Richw on date: April 29, 2005
For close ups, this camera is fine, but forget the zoom. Very out of focus, even after turning the focus ring six ways from Sunday. It just doesn't get sharp. Maybe 5-8 feet is the maximum distance. Outside of that it's too blurry. I also have the $28 Webcam NX and it has a much better picture for distance shots.

The focus ring took some work to get it free. The rubber ring seems to get stuck on the plastic camera body. I managed to get some plastic under it and finally got it to turn, although it still isn't very easy.

The "Face Tracking" consists of zooming in and out to find the person. There isn't any movement of the camera body. For that you have to go up to the next level of Logitec cameras.

Color is very good and there are plenty of automatic and manual settings for light, background, color etc.

Two bases are included; one for hanging onto the laptop and the other for flat surfaces. Both have rubber bases to keep them from slipping. The laptop one is very durable and flexible so you can bend it to fit the edge of the screen or other vertical flat surface. They just snap on so it's very easy to change from one to the other.

If only it were sharper it would be a really nice camera.

Review: Nice picture, bad mechanical
by: E. Chan on date: April 17, 2005
I am happy with the picture quality of this web cam. However, the mechanical leaves a lot to be desired

With one day of using it, the camera head started flopping around. Looks like the spring this is supposed to be holding the head on to the base is very weak and after pointing the camera a few times, it became very loose and there is no way to tighten it or adjust it.

I thought I just had a bad one so I exchanged it. When I got the new one home, I was as careful as I can be. But within one week, the same thing happened. It is obviously a mechanical design flaw. The worse part is that the USB cable attached to the camera head is long and thick relatively to the camera. With the camera head being loose, the cable now controls which direction the carmea points to.

This makes the camera almost unusable.

Review: Good camera but definitely has some drawbacks
by: Lodge2 on date: March 17, 2005
This is only my second webcam, so I have limited experience with these toys. Following are my observations (good and bad) after a week of use:

Great image quality for a webcam. It's not fair to compare it to a digital camera...the image is not THAT good. In comparison to my old IBM PC Cam, it's a significant improvement.

Easy to install. Just load the software and plug in the USB cable. Windows XP had no problem getting it up and running.

The software has limited functionality. They do a big push for instant messaging (MSN, AOL, AIM) and the software interface is more like an advertisement for IM than it is for controlling the camera.

You may not get all that is advertised. Mine only came with a copy of QuickCam (the basic software) and did not include ImageStudio (the software with motion detection). When I called their tech support, I was told they do not ship them with ImageStudio anymore, and you have to download that program from their website.

You almost HAVE to have broadband to get full use. The packaged QuickCam sofware was version 8.3.0 and their tech support directed me to the download page to get the latest version (8.4). It was a 31MB download, and they do not make CD's for those of us who don't have broadband. You can get the ImageStudio software from their website, since they don't package it with the camera anymore, but it is a 40+ MB download.

My bottom line...it's a good camera but is pricey. My dream camera would have great image quality and a software package that gave me maximum control over all of it's features. Unfortunately, the software included with this camera is not worthy of the hardware.

Review: Very good camera, but not for low light
by: Peter Easton on date: March 9, 2005
I bought this camera with the intention of using it as a motion detector security camera. The auto-white balance and auto-exposure works very well, except that at very low light (night with no lights) the camera tries too hard and bumps up the exposure gain beyond its capabilities. The result is a snowy picture, which my motion detection software struggles with.

That said, the camera will be very good for almost everything else. The camera adjust very well to the ambient light conditions, and gives you a clear, sharp picture.

Review: Logitech Quickcam Communicate has same claw grip stand
by: PeopleInMotion on date: February 23, 2005
First of all, the black orb webcam version of this one, has the same grip. Go look through the products images. So do not choose this camera just for the grip. This is probably not what you are looking for, unless you want to be able to take photographs above 640 x 420 resolution, zoom or focus, but then you are looking for a pro webcam - and this is the camera you want, but you are not taking advantage of how very cheap Webcams are.

Claw grip that you can bend around almost anything but is especially designed for LCD monitors, has no problem with CRT or desks, is going to prevent us breaking the camera any time soon. The camera is white so does not look as good as HAL from 2001, as per the black Quickcam, but nice all the same. Pity the central camera lens doesn't glow red, ha aha. The black non-pro quickcam looks better I think.

The camera must click into the stand. The directions do not make this very clear and some may be inclined to just let the camera orb rest on the stand, but it clicks into place so that it can bend and rotate on its axis firmly attached to the claw grip. The cable is a direct camera to USB2 that runs about the height of an average person, so if you want it to see further you need a USB2 to USB2 extension. However the cable is adequate for most.

With XP driver installation is crazy at best. Do not use the windows drivers or the webcam may cause Windows crashing. Do not plug in the webcam. Insert the CD. Install the driver software. Then you are prompted to plug in your webcam and follow what Logitech tell you to do. Okay, now you have the camera set so you can take photographs and camera video with it. XP just crashes the cam if you do not use the Logitech drivers.

One last tip. Avoid lighting at the camera directly by using a reading light behind the camera aimed at you. This will boost your image quality considerably. The autofocus is near perfect for the price. You will not have to adjust this camera except to move it around.

In short, get the other black model unless you want zoom, focus and high quality photographic images.

Review: Great Little Cam!
by: Gypsy on date: February 9, 2005
This is my second web cam by Logitech. The first was the Logitech Zoom, which was a piece of junk. After hours of frustration, grainy picture, and sparadic connection, I took it back.
The Pro 4000 is a dream! I paid 100.00 dollars for it and don't regret it at all! The picture is great, very clear, and there is little delay, so I don't look like something from an old 40's movie or under a strobe light. The microphone is good for videos, I haven't tried it with Yahoo Messenger yet.
Everyone has been so impressed with it, saying how clear my picture is. No more falling out of bed without raking a brush through my hair,or washing my face, and logging on! This camera is far too clear for that! I have had great fun with this cam, making videos, sending to friends and enhancing chats with family and friends out of state. I love it. I gave 4 stars only because the instructions aren't very good and you kind of have to play around with it to figure things out, but even that is not difficult. I really recommmend this cam. I don't know why some folks have had any problems with this cam, but I understand thier frustration because I went through that with the Logitech Zoom. BUY THIS CAM AND BE UP AND GOING IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES....

Review: Best low-cost webcam (still)
by: Kevin Woodward on date: January 30, 2005
The QuickCam Pro 4000 debuted on Amazon on Aug. 2, 2002. So one word to describe it is "mature" ... which is a nice way of saying a bit long in the tooth by anyone's technology standard. You could also say it has stood the test of time, is stable, whatever. Hey, if it wasn't getting the job done it wouldn't (still) be racking up sales and revenue for Logitech and Amazon, would it? It's the Energizer Bunny of webcams!

After nearly two years of use, two words to describe me are "satisfied owner."

A picture is worth 1K words and it's nice to have a face to go with a web chat or business presentation. I like the way it works with Yahoo! Messenger and WebEx, and the grandparents on the East Coast certainly enjoy getting a look at their West Coast progeny once in a while.

Setup on XP Pro was easy enough, although I did download the latest drivers online prior to install (always a good idea). The resolution via USB 1.0 is decent, the zoom and face-tracking features nice to have, although the light-sensor benefits from a little manual intervention depending on the time of day and how close you sit to a window.

My biggest gripe is the lack of bundled software that allows you to schedule a webcam snapshot, save it as a JPEG image and ftp it to your web page ... something that was included in earlier models. This is one of the main reasons folks purchase a webcam in the first place ... still, it's easy enough to find a shareware program out there to do the job if you look around a little.

The bottom line is the QuickCam Pro 4000 is a good value. If you want something better, be prepared to pay for it. But at under $100 it has very few -- if any -- rivals.

Review: My First Webcam
by: Nathan T. on date: January 25, 2005
My Computer's Specs just in case: 2.5 GHZ Celeron, Home XP SP2, Radeon 9200 Graphics Card, 512MB, DSL.
I've gotten this cam for a few days now. I'm giving this a 5 stars not because its perfect but because its good enough for me and for the price and asking too much is asking for trouble. Bought it for $70 dollar total including shipping. My first webcam and I've got to say, it is a very decent webcam. The picture was very nice, clear, and quite smooth, the still picture is a little bit blurry but still pretty nice considering this is a webcam and not a digital camera. When showing other people my webcam, especially on instant messengers, it was very smooth and clear, so if you have pimples etc, if the lighting is right you can see it all. The lighting adaptor is fantastic. I can turn off all my lights and just have my computer on and the cam will actually adapt to the darker surrounding. However, the picture will become a little scratchy so light means better pictures, just not too much light cause the cam doesn't require much.

The function is quite easy. So far I've heard people complain about the software, the base, this and that. So far I have no problem at all. The base is standing solid on my table and I moved the movable pieces and so far nothing has fallen off or anything. I mean if you don't abuse and/or misuse it, than I don't see why you would have that problem. The software, after using it to install the program needed for the cam, I haven't even touched it cause the reviews here made me paranoid. I just put almost everything on auto so the camera can adjust to the surrounding, but you can definately experiment with the webcam's adjustments to see what best fits you.

Before installing it, I was extra careful so I cleaned up the computer by scanning it completely for spywares, adwares, virusus, useless junks or whatever and doing a defrag. I mean if you have problems with the cam, maybe its not just the cams fault, but your own.

I would definately say, if you want a nice cam for your money, than this is it. I'm not overwhelmingly impressed, but definately by far not disappointed.

Review: Excellent video but lots of echo from audio
by: techie on date: January 22, 2005
The camera installs very easily on XP with SP2 and latest patches -- very straight forward. Video is excellent and automatically adjusts well to lighting conditions. However, the mic is so sensitive that it picks up alot of echo if you are not using a headset. The sound from the person you are video conferencing with comes out your speakers gets fed back into mic causing an echo). If they could provide audio echo cancellation in the QuickCam, I'd give it 5 stars and use MSN video conferencing much more. For those having trouble installing this camera, the problem is on your end. Update your software!!

Review: Works well with XP
by: Teresa A. Wilkeson on date: January 3, 2005
I figured I should review this item because the reviews seem so mixed. Some people report problems, others say it installed in a snap.

Well, it installed in a snap on my machine and my mother's. We are both running Windows XP sp2. Before installing, I made sure to do Windows update, and installed all non-critical updates and driver updates, as well as the critical updates. I'm wondering if people who are experiencing problems are running older versions of MS Windows, or if they haven't done the latest updates from Microsoft.

My mother lives 2000 miles away, and is technically challenged. We used XP's Remote Assistance feature so that I could remotely go into her machine and do all the updates. I downloaded the latest Logitech software for the camera from their site, and also loaded that on my mother's machine. After the reboot, mom was on her own to plug in the camera and follow the screen directions. Okay, I was actually on the phone with her while she did it, but it went okay with no problems.

I'm having a little problem with my HP All In One scanner/copier/printer since installing the Logitech camera and MSN Messenger 6.2 -- sometimes my computer would freeze when I try to print. I don't know which is causing the conflict (camera software or MSN Messenger) and have temporarily stopped using that printer until I have time to look into it. My other HP printer, a LaserJet, is working perfectly. Mom has an HP photo printer and hers is working perfectly as well.

The microphone is very sensitive, so we have to use headphones when we have an audio conversation or else there is feedback. Moving the speakers to point away from the microphone did not help. The microphone is great, though. I had an audio conversation with a friend using another brand of microphone, and the first syllable of almost every sentence he said was lost. Not so with the microphone in this camera. The sound is really good.

Mom and I chat on Messenger almost every day, and we use the web camera about once a week. For the past 40 years, she and I have always lived less than 20 miles apart. This web camera is making a big difference in helping us make the adjustment to being so far apart. I highly recommend it. Phone calls are great, but nothing can replace seeing the smile and laughter of a loved one in real time.

This product is great for many reasons. You can use AIM on it, pictures, my favorite clay animation, stop animtion, and it can be used as a regular camera. If anyone wants to do a school project, which involves a video camera or stop animation, this is perfect. You can make funny movies, sad movies, realistic movies, movies of all kind.

If you want a real good webcam, buy this one without considering any other stuffs! This one is very easy to use and most of all, you can feel something when you hold it in your hands! I don't know how to describe that kind of feeling... it's just the king of all webcams! Give up all those cmos cameras and try this one, you're gonna love it!

Review: Works with a Mac if you use iChatUSBCam
by: Timur Tabi on date: December 26, 2004
If you want to use this webcam on a Macintosh with iChat, you need to get iChatUSBCam (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/). This $10 utility enables iChat to work with this and many other USB webcams. I use this combination on my 400MHz G4, and it works great. And now that the video conferencing feature of iChat works with AOL Instant Messenger, you can buy two of these webcams for the same price as one iSight (ASIN B0002OZXG0) and still have video conferences with someone using a PC.

Review: Love this little webcam
by: Lady In Red on date: December 7, 2004
At first I was a bit hesitant to get this camera, because some of the reviews were negative about installing with Windows XP SP2. Well, I was up and running in about 5 minutes, with no problems at all. I went to the logitech website and downloaded the most current driver for this camera. I already had directx 9. If you don't have that installed, logitech will ask you to do that first. After I downloaded that, I closed out all of my extra programs, including my antivirus program and yahoo messenger. Then I ran End It All, a neat little program that will close out many of your hidden programs that are running in the background, and can be found for free on downloads.com. I do this for any program I install, to ensure a clean install. Believe me it makes a difference. I clicked on my new downloaded driver and I was ready to go. (Do not plug in your camera till you've installed the driver and you are asked to plug in the camera. This is very important.) Never even used the CD that came with it. That would be outdated by now. The picture was so great, much to my dismay because it showed all of my wrinkles (I'm 58). Recorded videos in a manner of minutes, and emailed to people for feedback. They received and were able to play them with no problems. Audio was excellent. If you're hesitant, like I was, try it out and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Review: Don't buy this product
by: E. Sandahl on date: December 2, 2004
I got this product last year and have never been able to use it. After months of working with Tech Support, they sent me another cam., which I was able to get working for a day but then Logitech upgraded their software and I was unable to download it. I called for an installation CD and their manager (who was very rude!) said they'd send me one for a fee. I had already spent over $90 on this produce without having a chance to use it and they wanted me to dish out more cash! No way. I would never buy anything from Logitech again. There are plenty of other companies out there with quality products and good customer support.

Review: Bad Software
by: Chin Tiou Hwang on date: November 14, 2004
This is my first time buying a web cam....and I have to say is, it's a great product. One feature I like, is the feature where it track your face. You don't have to play around with the software to pinpoint the face.
One big bad factor about the logitech...the software. When U try to install the program, it will install an "Adware" call BackWeb.
It's a no no. The Backweb program can install and upload information from your computer with out your notice. Plus, you can get a trojan without noticing it. Luckly I had Pestpatrol to clean it out. If it wasn't the software problem...I would have given it a 5 stars

Review: nice cam
by: H. Sachan on date: November 6, 2004
I had a really old Kensington camera which worked only with Win 95/98 and after few years I decided to use a webcam for general conference calls and for fun too. I basically compared this model with Creative labs Webcam NX Ultra and found this model has had lot of upgrades and been on the market for quite sometime. So I went ahead anh bought it.

- Very easy to setup
- have used with windows messenger and MSN messenger
- software for video and picture recordings
- good microphone quality
- I like the Face Track feature where the camera follows the face and zooms in accordingly. You need to have it on the zoom in mode so that it can pan automatically with in the field of sight.

I've used this for many conference calls within US and outside US also and now I've ordered the 5 pack (ASIN: B00007FS0C) for everyone in my group at work.

Really worth the value and friends also like the quality of audio/video with the chat.
It does come with the flat panel clip as advertised in the product and I've never seen the other error about "imgstud.exe" as "Mary Foster Cox" suggested.

Review: very disappointed
by: Mary Foster Cox on date: November 4, 2004
I used the picture option with no difficulty, but I could not get the movie option to work. After recording and trying to open the file, I repeatedly got the error message "imgstud.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows." After spending 1 hour on hold (NOT toll free) with tech support, I was emailed a lengthy explanation of how to do a "clean boot," which took a great deal of time and did not resolve the problem. I am sending the product back.

by: J. Anderson on date: October 26, 2004
Okay so I have been hearing a lot of ups and downs about this camera, but personally I love it I think its great. My came with the clip and everything. Image is great is whatever light, I think. Installation was so easy, I think a 5 yr old could do it. And, it was just fine with the messenger MSN and YAHOO that I have but see I have a regular account with AOL and the camera works just fine on that, but if I just log on to the AIM, for some reason the camera thing doesnt work right now, but it should, so Im lookin into that. So this camera is great.

Review: Software is awful. Cam is ok.
by: Muddy Moe on date: October 21, 2004
Bought this and ultimately returned it. Had a cheaper Creative cam before (Creative Labs PD1130 WebCam NX Pro) and loved the SW on it. It worked well and unobtrusively and if you wanted the cam to function for security monitoring, as I did, then it was great. The Logitech 4000 is a slightly better piece of hardware (although still much lower resolution than even an average digital camera), but the monitoring SW is nonexistent and the "Webcam" part of it is nothing more than a sales pitch for a pay-by-the-month hosting site. In case you don't know, you don't have to pay for a site to have a remote webcam. I find this a dirty trick of Logitech. Also, the graphical interface of the Logitech SW is just flat out annoying. The Creative Labs PD1130 WebCam NX Pro is half as much and have superior SW in just about every regard.

I returned the Creative Labs PD1130 WebCam NX Pro only because it would lock up after several hours on my machine using Win ME. Well, guess what? The Logitech did too. To be fair, this is probably a Win ME issue or my PC hardware instead of the cameras. But because I hated the Logitech SW and the resolution improvement isn't enough to overcome my disdain for the SW, I've returned the Logitech and will probably rebuy a Creative Webcam soon.

Review: BE aware!
by: C. Nicola on date: October 6, 2004
Hi !

I want to say something about this camera!
Be aware that amazon sells a version of this camera without the flat panel clip!!!!

Some other stores have the flat panel clip with it where you can attach the camera to a flat panel screen.

I bought the camera this week and the clip was not included. that is probably why they sell the camera so cheap.

despite that i recommend the camera.

by: Jayfeth on date: September 16, 2004
This is a very good product if you're simply looking to enhance your experience with MSN or Yahoo Messengers. The image is of good quality, the refresh rate is decent so you end up getting a fairly smooth image. I had no problem installing it or using it on my system, and with the new Messengers out there they recongize the hardware right away. Great way to keep in touch with friends and family, especially if you're over great distances and the cost of a phone call is too much! My wife's family in Japan loved to see us on it!

Review: Love the camera, hate the software
by: Jennifer on date: September 15, 2004
I bought this on Amazon.com for $79.98. The CD installed software worked only briefly before it failed to capture video. I got an error message that said, "Unable to save video to "c:\windows\temp\log16.avi". I uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, and gave up. So I emailed Logitech's support. They responded the next day and asked me to do a clean uninstall and to reinstall the latest software. I did that but improvised here and there. That did the trick, but oh boy it took more than 5-6 hours to get this webcam working at last. Such a pain. The picture and audio (built-in camera) was pretty good, and I think I will keep this camera after all. My last purchase, which I returned, was the Logitech QuickCam Messenger. The picture quality was really awful, and you can see the really grainy picture. If you are into better picture quality, go for the Quickcam Pro 4000 but beware of the software installation. It's a real hassle.

Review: AWESOME WEBCAM!
by: on date: September 15, 2004
I had an IBM, Then an IBOT, Then a Tracker Robotic Cam Pod that I paid over 200 dollars for and it never worked right! The company gave me the run around for 2 years. I finally gave up! A Logitech 3000 was attached to the robotic piece of garbage. So I used that cam for the past 2 years. The picture started to get grainy and there was no way of making it clearer anymore. I ran this camera non stop 24 hours a day pretty much for 2 years. So I decided it was time for a new cam! I love Logitech webcams and I was more then happy at how easy this was to install over all the other cams I pulled my hair out over. Plus the software is AMAZING! I started making video's and sending them everywhere. I think all webcams have a short life. After experimenting with my own and seeing my friend's. This is a great bang for your buck. I totally recommend this cam!

Review: Good Equipment
by: Tresha Betancourt on date: August 4, 2004
I have no idea what people are griping about... I'm an E-Commerce student and a programmer, and for it's price this is a good web cam. I didn't bother with the software it came with, got the newest off the Logitech website. The picture clarity is good, I can't say anything about the audio as I already have a mic. But setup was easy and it works with instant messaging programs fine... Can't say how it works on macs though, I'm a PC user.

Over all, if you want a super camera, expect to pay super prices. The camera is good for $80 and is really great with limited light.

Review: Works Great on MY PC, ok on my MAC
by: Thomas E. Tweedel on date: July 10, 2004
To date this is the best of 3 web cams I've used. I bought this and the Isight at the same time, ended up returning the Isight because we elected to use the PC for our web cam machine.

Note: I only use this as a web-cam for communication, I don't use any of the other software that comes with it.

The camera setup is fairly well though out. I really like the fact they give you two stands, one for a CRT and one for an LCD.

Installation of the software on an old PIII dell under windows 2000 went pretty much by the book. My only complaint was that it took a rather long time to install the software. Once installed it detected the camera and all was well.

I do photography as a hobby and compared to still cameras or even conventional video cameras the image quality was lacking, but you have to remeber what this device is for. The auto white balance worked pretty good, way out performing my Isight. I haven't messed with the face tracking software, I figure thats just a problem waiting to happen.

It plugged and worked (video wise) with my Mac and PC. I had some issues with getting the audio to work with my mac and Ivisit but I didn't really pay attention since I wasn't planning on using it for the Mac anyway.

On the PC it works fine, does an ok image, recognized by Yahoo IM and Ivisit.

Because of the pull of the cable getting it pointed in just the right direction is sometimes problematic.

All in all I am happy with it. It does its job well.

Review: The little camera that could, can and does!
by: B. Day on date: June 17, 2004
This is one of Logitech's better bang-for-the-buck inventions.

Automatically, it zooms in or out on you, as if another person is filming you. Sound is good, not the best, but very, very clear and audible. Picture is superb.

Have fun gabbing online face-to-face with other web cam nuts, or enjoy filming yourself talking to yourself. Fun and affordable.

Review: Not comfortable with it
by: on date: June 9, 2004
I have been used this product before, the quality is okay, not very impressive though.
Now i am using other cameras like IP Camera. I am lucy to find out that some of the IP Camera like IP Camera 8000 can act as webcam, and can be placed anywhere in my house and be viewed anywhere in the world. That's too convenience for me because i did not have to hook camera to my computer anymore.
Also imagine you can watch your babies in their bedroom or the dinning room from outside like your office. That's too cool. Forget the webcam...

Review: do not buy
by: on date: June 6, 2004
They advertise as easy to use. Yet I could not get the audio to work. In going to the logitech site this was clearly a known issues with no help given. When asked what to do they gave a third party option and then disavowed it, since it was third party. DO NOT BUY!!

Review: Poor software, marginal optics
by: californiacrockett on date: May 20, 2004
I wish I'd weighted jfaughnan's evaluation more before purchasing this camera...

1. Software = useless for webcam image uploading. For additional software from a third party, Logitech points to a website that hasn't worked since 2003. Logitech's technical support is extremely poor: incomplete and incorrect responses to basic questions appear to be standard.

2. Very low picture quality in low light. I am not sure what some other reviewers were raving about; this camera does not perform well in anything but a very highly lit room. Compared side-by-side to my very old Intel CS430, the Logitech had distorted color and an overall poor quality image (regardless of endless tweaking of calibration tools).

3. Motion-tracked video capture is very poor. I originally thought that I finally had something worth considering keeping the camera for until opening a saved clip. At first, the video appears well-lit, then almost instantly the video becomes 80% darker. Again, no setting adjustments overcome this flaw. Very odd.

4. If you still think you'll test the camera yourself, don't buy from Amazon. You'll end up being out the shipping cost to send it back. Do yourself a favor and buy it from a local store. I used to love Amazon until this purchase.

Review: Not compatible with USB cable modem and McAfee Firewall
by: on date: April 25, 2004
Have spent several days trying to get this to work. After installation I am unable to get online and my firewall is disabled. Judging from their website's discussion forum, this has been a known issue since last October with no fix in site.

After a lengthy wait (on my dime) with their customer reps, I was told they would call me back in 24-48 hours. With only one day off per week, this was not going to do me any good. My caller id still has shown no calls from them, and it's been almost a week. So I wrote email to customer service, they responded with instructions on hooking up a keyboard. I wrote back, they gave instructions on doing a "clean boot" before installation. This actually got me online, but firewall once again disabled and system ran incredibly slow. Am going to return it to Amazon and try another brand.

Review: Great webcam, Audio takes some effort
by: Alok Mathur on date: April 17, 2004
This is my 3rd try at a webcam. I tried Creative and Vio webcams but the picture was just too grainy. With 4000 Pro, it is clear even without any special lighting. I love it. The face tracking is also interesting.
Now microphone was a different affair! I got it going locally, but with MSN messenger, it took some research. Finally by disabling QOS scheduling in the network properties, I got it going. Now I am alive :-)
I would strongly recommend this camera. Install the latest software from the Logitech website. Don't bother with the CD.

Logitech pro 4000 camera does not work with AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) in the most unbelievable deception that a buyer caught unawares may have to face; never had so many problems with a piece of hardware (crashed a 4-yearold laptop through audio incompatibility)

Review: It is great, simple to setup and to use!
by: Todd K. Lane on date: March 30, 2004
I just got my webcam and already have it set up. It is so small, I was amazed at it's size. It came with two stands, and a nice long cord, about 5'! It had a booklet instructing you how to set it up! The setup was was fine except in trying to install the software, I click on the chinese version! The instructions for using the CED-ROM disc could have been more explicit! And there were no instruction on how to operate the zoom lens or the built-in microphone! I will look further for information. BUT, I would still order it again and think it is an excellent bargain from Amazon! They are totally rad!

Later, dude!

Review: Awesome cam for the money. But be patient when configuring!
by: on date: March 29, 2004
It took a little while to fine tune the settings- Dont expect it to work right out of the box!) Most of the problems occur when trying to configure the camera to work with your messenger (I use MSN 6.1) but once youre done, it is an excellent webcam. I tried the Quickcam Express which was horrible and the Quickcam zoom came highly recommended. But for the money, I went for the Pro 4000 and Im happy with it. Also, go for the picture quality and the zoom. The other add-ons (which are nice), you really won't use.

Review: Product stopped working, Logitech support never works
by: Jean on date: March 12, 2004
The video portion of the product stopped working after 6 weeks. I refused to call Logitech's long distance # in Nevada, and left a message at their corporate office for every exec. No one at Logitech answers their phone directly. It took me 4 days to get a response, 2 weeks for them to decide they couldn't fix it, and now they want me to pay to send their lousy product back. I don't think so. By persistence, I finally got them to say they will refund my money. Their support is horrible. I wouldn't buy from Logitech any more.

Review: Functional and simple
by: E. Cho on date: March 10, 2004
Great webcam - very simple yet functional.

The installation was quick and easy. For those complaining about the "extra software" - those are simply optional online albums that they're advertising; they're by no means needed to run the webcam.

Both the live stream and the still pictures' qualities are superb.

The auto face-tracking is a good feature to have.

The little "visor" that covers the lens is a cute feature.

Review: AWESOME CAMMIN!
by: James F. Coop on date: March 4, 2004
A totally awesome and quite an impressive webcam with face-tracking, digital zoom and built-in microphone - all with an extremely affordable price. Super easy to install (especially with XP) and user-friendly software package. I'm told that the detail, image clarity and overall quality online is spectacular. People often ask me what type of web camera I am using and I always tell. So, I know that this camera sells itself.

I'm sold on Logitech for a long time because of this camera! I've tried three other manufacturer's webcams and have been consistently disappointed with driver updates for operating systems and compatibility with online messengers. The Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 works great with ALL of my instant messengers and online chat plug ins!

Review: FANTASTIC CAMERA!!! VERY PLEASED
by: Tim Korn on date: March 4, 2004
I used to own a VEO Velocity camera, and my girlfriend purchased one of these so that we can chat when i move overseas. When we hooked it up I was absolutely amazed by the clarity of the camera. We went online and did some Video IMing and I could not believe how sharp the picture was. This camera is awesome. The software includes a motion tracker which is pretty cool. If you want it to, it turns on whenever it detects motion, so you can catch someone doing something they shouldnt be doing. It works flawlessly and was a breeze to configure and install. After seeing it online, i went out and bought two, one for me and one for my mom. Its a great camera.

Review: Best webcam I have ever seen/used.
by: Jon on date: February 22, 2004
After testing this camera I found the following things

1. Video Qualtiy - The video quality is amazing. I got 640 x 480 @ 30 FPS. I use Windows Movie Maker to capture and edit. Awesome and free. (or Virtual Dub, I like windows movie maker format a little better though)

2. Image Quality - The image quality is great, for its design. The resolution is 640 x 480 = 307 200 dots in the picture. For photo quality you need 2 000 000 minimum. So as you can see its no where near that. But for web shots its great.

3. Base - I heard many complaints about base. I know why. If you look at the webcam base there is a little notch for the webcam to be put in a certain way. If you dont' put it in right then it will not stay in very well.

4. MSN 6.x - If you plan on using this with MSN 6.x and both parties have windows xp and a webcam use the video conferencing feature, much better then the normal webcam feature.

TIP: In the cmaera settings, Take white balance and take it off of auto and put it on the one that makes it look the most natual. For me I have flourescent lightbulbs and incandescent looks the best.

TIP 2: If you want to avoid a crappy and grainy picture/video, make sure you take exposure off of auto and lower the gain. Less gain, less grain. Only do this if you use the same lighting all the time.

Review: Ready, Set, Go...It's that easy
by: Dilip S. Kumar on date: January 30, 2004
We just had a baby and decided to buy a webcam so that we could add some video when we chat with our parents who live abroad.

The Quick Cam Pro 4000 was easy to install - just install the software, connect the webcam to the USB port and you are ready to go (well almost, and this is the one complaint I have with this product)

It seemed to not work with MSN Messenger 6.0 and repeatedly asked me to install 6.1 even though I had installed it. This happened whenever I clicked on the logitech icon on the taskbar. When I started MSN Messenger and then sent a webcam invitation to someone, it worked fine.

Apart from that, this product is amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a webcam. Also, Amazon has the lowest prices compared to the merchants who sell this product. The software for photo management is limited, so you are better off with either Photoshop or something else.

Review: Excellent product for price
by: on date: January 21, 2004
The Logitech Quickcam Pro is a huge step up from our previous webcam (an earlier Quickcam) With this product the image quality has risen greatly and you no longer have to be in a very bright room to get a good picture. In the advanced settings you can even select if you are in daylight or under fluorescent lights to improve the quality again.
When taking still images you get 1.3 mega pixels and that was good for regular digital cameras up until a couple of years ago. If you are looking for a webcam in this price range then I'd definitely go with this one as to get any improvement in quality you'll really need to spend a lot of money.

Review: Dependable Webcam but Lousy cover
by: Nivas Durairaj on date: January 19, 2004
To make this short, it is simple to use and takes great pictures. I have only two problems with it:

1. To use certain parts of the camera software, you must subscribe to some service..who's going to do that?!
2. The flipback lid for the camera lens is very irritating..it always comes off even with the slightest touch.

With the above said, the webcam comes through and serves its purpose with clear images.

Review: Great CCD webcam for 50 bucks
by: on date: December 7, 2003
It is a great difference between CCD and CMOS webcams. But the high price made me hesitated. When I saw the price dropped to 50 buck, I immediately bought it. It works superb, especially during night. Because I use webcam most at night, I like it very much. I will never try CMOS webcam anymore.
I admit the 4000 model is not manufacturally elegant. It looks cheap. Also, it is bad that it can not stand on a LCD monitor.

Review: Works well with MSN messenger.
by: J. Edward Hager on date: December 2, 2003
I am a software developer who telecommutes full time from my home in WA to my job in AZ. I really like this webcam. It was easy to install and it is easy to use. The picture is great and the microphone works really well. MSN Messenger plays a big part in my communications with my colleagues and the Quickcam Pro works well with MSN Messenger.

When people complain about the picture quality, you have to ask them "what software are you using and what kind of Internet connection do you have?" With MSN, if you choose the "Video Conversation" option, you will get the camera's best picture. But, if you choose the "Video Conference" option, the picture quality is not the best. This is an issue with the MSN Messenger software, not the camera.

Review: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
by: on date: November 29, 2003
I am new to web cams and this is my first. Thanks, Amazon, for shipping it so quickly! That was really excellent service. My system is a Dell 1.6Ghz Pentium IV running Windows98SE with 512 SDRAM, 20 Gbyte disk, not the fastest, but pretty fast.

The Good: It is a small and stylish camera with a nice long USB cord, 7 or 8 feet. The picture quality is nothing short of excellent but being new to this I had to tweak it a lot. It sent a great live moving picture through IM to the UK and the Brit on the other end thought it was great. The camera takes really nice stills, too, and files them for you (a task I'd rather do myself, but...). It also has numerous picture size options up to "megapixel."

The Bad: Logitech's software put 6 or 7 new icons on my desktop. I am very territorial about my desktop and I didn't like this; one would have been sufficient. Also, the software tried to sneak in a sale for RealPlayer which I don't want or need (I use MS MediaPlayer, it's free after all). Then I discovered the software shipped with it was an old version, and I had to download a newer version from Logitech...this took another ten minutes or so even at DSL speeds.

The Ugly: This thing uses a LOT of system resources, and I should have known (Duh!) While using the cam, I noticed my cursor took seconds to respond and at times I thought my system was frozen. I had to use msconfig from "Run" to unclick all the Logitech programs that were starting up with my system start-up. I also had problems when shutting down programs to run a defrag routine, I keep getting that "Safe Mode" screen saying the system was dangerously low on resources. I admit some of these problems may be blamed on Windows98SE (a notoriously unstable OS) but they never happened before I installed the Logitech software.

All in all the camera and its pics are great, and the camera is very, very sensitive to lighting. I just wish Logitech had considered that an end user might not want all the so-called "extras" in their software. "K.I.S.S.," I always say. Would I buy this camera again knowing what I know now? Yes. BUT...

Review: I love this webcam!!!
by: on date: November 29, 2003
This was a gift from a friend in Hawaii,we'd both been using a less expensive webcam to correspond. When this came I was floored! The set-up was a breeze..a little trouble actually getting audio for IM'ing at first, but that was resolved over a few tries. The picture and sound quality has been wonderful for our purposes...so good in fact that I have purchased one for each of my adult children for Christmas gifts! Now when they are Instant Messaging each other and me, we are all seeing each other (not always a pretty sight at 6 AM on a Sunday!!!!) For anyone who wants to step up their ability to be in touch with loved ones or colleagues, this is a great way to start! Thanks.

Review: These other people are nuts
by: M. Miller on date: November 25, 2003
I don't know what these people are talking about, as far as I'm concerned, this cam is great. Sure, the image quality is lacking...but that's how webcams are. Obviously, ... has never seen one in action before. For a webcam, though, the images quality on this one is awesome. You have to make sure the lighting, of course, is all good or else it'll be kind of washed out. Also, you can adjust the focus, so don't forget that.

Others here are saying that the software sucks. Yeah, they're right. this cam doesn't come with any good software for auto-uploading your pics to your server. They make you sign up with SpotLife and SpotLife is shutting down on Dec 12. However, there are plenty of good (and free) web cam programs on the net. I suggest ChillCAM as thats what I've been using. Get it here: http://www.chillcam.com/index.asp?page=Download

And if you dont want to buy it, you may want to d/l the older version as i don't think it has a evaluation time limit on it.

I'm also runnig XP SP1 and have had no problems with it, whatsoever.

I'd recommend this cam to anyone wanting a good one and that does't mind paying a bit more for better quality and a zoom (which is pretty sweet, as well).

Review: The image quality is terrible!
by: A. Marcotte on date: November 24, 2003
I purchased this WebCam a few months ago and it seems the longer I have it the worse the image quality becomes! I wish I had returned it before the 30 days was up but now I'm stuck with it! If this is the best WebCam around WebCam's have a long way to go! Don't waste your money on this piece of junk!

Review: Windows XP Pro SP1 problems
by: on date: October 25, 2003
As others have noted this is not a quick install if using Windows XP Pro SP1. I work in desktop software support and usually do not hit a deadend. After hours and hours devoted to trying workarounds I gave up. I tried Microsoft and Logitech suggestions, patches and workarounds but nothing suggested or found on web searches worked. I am afraid that the Logitech QuickCam software v5.01 - v8.1.1 is not up to the task.

Review: Great Cam!
by: Steve Lopes on date: October 20, 2003
I upgraded from and old intel cmos model and OH MY What a huge difference! My old cam would not work well in low lighting this one works awesome. I no longer need to light up my living room like a movie set for folks to see me. The face tracking feature is also great and the bundled software rocks. I bought mine locally though since Amazon was taking forever to ship it out.

Review: THE SIMPLE FACTS ON THE LOGITECH PRO 4000
by: adrian derbyshire on date: October 18, 2003
Ok, where do I start... After searching through dozens & dozens of reviews (Not only on this site & not only for the Pro 4000) Did I Come to the choice of the Pro 4000. I've read many negative & many positive reviews for this Webcam, so I thought what the hell & purchased one to find out for myself. here's what I can tell ya.

1. I use windows XP on my home pc and it installed the drivers for the Pro 4000 simply and efficiantly & works great.

2. The picture you get from the webcam is very, very clear, even when lighting is to a minimum. I bought this webcam so i could use it to see family in the UK, my brother purchased a more expensive one and the Picture quality between the two is beyond comparison, the Pro 4000 outshines his phillips and my mothers logitech messenger.

3. I like the auto zoom feature and you can also manualy zoom as well, so you have the best of both worlds.

Here's the negative...

1. Yes the microphone is sensative and does pick up background noise, if your having a party or playing loud music it's gonna pick it up.

2. The USB cable is a little heavy and can move your webcam a little, depends on how much slack you have for the wire. But you dont have to be a rocket scientist to tape a little slack down at the back of your PC so it does'nt move.

3. Reviews have mentioned how flimsy the base is, but I have had no problems with that.

4. It should come with more directions. Installation directions are basic, but ok. Needs to have directions regarding the software that comes with it, the movie maker is fun but it's gonna take you a while to find out what does what, just be patient!

5. If you want this webcam to take quality digital pics then dont bother, pics turn out grainy & not at all good quality.

6. Price, I search various places for the best deal and found some amazing prices, but then read the reviews on the company's that's selling the Pro 4000 and been detered. This is what I can tell you. If you want this webcam then buy it from Amazon, $80.00 is in the middle of the price range, but I know that Amazon has never let me down on delivery time or refunds. If your still not convinced on the Pro 4000 then buy it from Best Buy, your gonna spend $104.00, try it & see for yourself, if you dont like it, return it with no hassles , if you do like it, return it anyway & then order it from Amazon for $20.00 less!!
This saves you time in shipping and returning it, waiting for your money back etc..

Well, that's it. Ive never tried any other webcam's because I didn't need to! This IS the one webcam for me & maybe you....

Review: I cannot believe the reviews this camera got
by: Howard M. Sloane on date: October 14, 2003
I cannot believe the reviews this camera got !

So far my experience with it has been sub-optimal.
Setup was very simple.

I dont see what is so great about it. It performs about the same as my connectix/logitech quickcam vc-which was poor.

The pic is fuzzy and no amout of fooling around with the focus ring gets it sharp.
The camera stand is flimsy-a piece of junk.
The visor falls off.
The camera is too light for the usb cable and you really can't get it to stand up straight-not to mention aiming it.
The cam moves rolls around in the ball socket thing.

PIECE of CRAP

Review: Built-in microphone is horrible!
by: on date: October 2, 2003
The logitech advertises the built-in microphone as one of the major functions of this webcam. However, it does not work at all because it catches too much background noise. I ended up buying a new microphone to work with this webcam. Consider this drawback before you purchase this item. You may consider another cheaper product without built-in microphone because you still need to pay for it.

Review: SUPER NICE AND EASY TO INSTALL AND USE
by: on date: September 28, 2003
I just bought the Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 and it is awesome. I am not extraordinarily terrific with computers, but this camera was super easy to install and even easier to use. I have relatively low light in the room and the camera performs wonderfully in spite of the fact. The picture quality is outstanding. I shopped around for weeks and actually bought a cheaper model with a different brand name and ended up returning it. I recommend spending the little extra for this camera in particular based on the features, performance and value for the price. It's so worth it.

This was my first Web Cam. It's performance far exceeded my expectations. I use the internal Mike when ON Echolink - This Link is for Licensed Amatuer Radio Operators - I have had many complimentary reports on the excellent Audio response.

I am purchasing a second Pro 4000 for a family Member. I have chosen this Model because I personally know that the Performance
is excellent.

About a week ago I bought the Logitech ClickSmart 310 (to use it both as WeCam and Digital Camera). I highly recommend this to anyone interested in very good resolution.

Review: Top of the line
by: Michael J. Tian on date: August 21, 2003
I was very fortunate to get this from Amazon...

Pros:
1) Very clear picture even in low lighting.
2) Built in Microphone that is very clear and efficient
3) Stylish and compact
4) Sturdy, I dropped it several times and it still works like
a charm
5) Super easy setup, plug and play
6) Logitech Brand is solid

Cons:
1) Requires a relatively recent cpu. It did not work on my
old Pentium II 400 MHZ even though it claimed that it
works (I even had 256 mb RAM). But it is flawless on my
new DELL 2.40 GHZ.......zoom zoom.....

Review: NO IMPROVEMENT OVER Logitech 3000
by: Volney Hill on date: August 6, 2003
I purchased the 4000 in order to improve the picture quality of my useful Logitech 3000. Not only was there no discernable difference in still picture quality but the video mode was shakier. Autofocus was less clear than manual. Face tracking was erratic. DON'T BUY THE 4000 if you already own the 3000 or have the option to purchase that model instead.

Review: Simple
by: M. Hahn on date: July 30, 2003
It's easy to set up, and if you have the right components, the software CD doesn't even need to be installed. The video quality is great for the price and the mic catches even the subtle sounds.

Review: Works well with MSN & Yahoo Messenger
by: on date: July 11, 2003
This is a nice webcam for webconferencing use and I was pleased how easy it was to use with MSN and Yahoo messenger. The frame rate with MSN Messenger was pretty high and resolution decent.
For a comparison, I have also tried a webcam approximately in the $ range which didn't seem compatible with these instant messengers.

The camera has a face tracking feature which is nice. As for quality of images, it's good enough quality for a webcam and still photos can be used for a photo Id.

Review: Absolutely great!

If you're looking for clear images and close to perfect photo clips/videos, this camera is for you. I use it to chat with my family overseas and it works great. Take advantage of the price right now while it lasts. I recommend it 100%.

Review: Fun & Easy to Use
by: on date: July 1, 2003
To give you a little background, I've never had one of these before as I usually just use my digital cam. I received the QuickCam Pro 4000 as a present and I'm in love with it. :) It lives up to its "quick" name: set-up was a breeze. I was up and running within 15 minutes and had my first video conference shortly thereafter. I had heard there are issues between Windows XP and the QuickCam Pro 4000, but if there are, I haven't experienced it yet, so perhaps that deals with earlier editions (I did notice during set-up it installed a Windows XP patch). The picture is clear; still shots and video are high-quality, even in low-light settings or when using MSN Messenger. The only complaint I have as far as performance is one mentioned below -- it is a little tricky to make sure the cam stays on the mount as it comes unscrewed easily. And I'm not thrilled that you need to buy SpotLife in order to broadcast or have live cam action. But I consider those minor details and would highly recommend this fun camera to anyone for its ease of use and high-quality images/video.

Review: Great Webcam
by: Anthony Bascombe on date: June 7, 2003
Bought this product, hooked up to my system and am very satisfied with the features and its reliability (Logitech, of course). My friends report that I am seen and heard very well when online. Don't hesitate, great camera for anything requiring online contact. You must remember that internet traffic, your connection and equipment are factors that influence the end-product, but if all the givens are at peak the camera gives you just what you've been expecting.... quality performance!

Review: Great Camera, ...
by: J. Rood on date: May 28, 2003
I looked at this camera mainly for long-distance calling over the internet. I find that although the image is smaller than I expected over AIM (and there is no sound), you can use MSN Messenger to get both a bigger image and sound. Be careful--if you're using AOL to get online, it may restrict your ability to send/recieve video and audio. My boyfriend could not send sound over the internet because AOL blocked that aspect. But overall it's a good little camera that serves its purpose well.

Review: Could NOT get it to work with Windows XP & Yahoo Messenger
by: PL on date: May 18, 2003
I have to give this thing a somewhat poor rating because the documentation and web support are weak. I could not get this device to work with my Windows XP Pro system (I am very computer literate) and Yahoo Messenger 5.5. I'm not sure if it's a Windows/Yahoo/Logitech problem, but after cleaning my computer's registry, searching for tech notes, installing/reinstalling/uninstalling, I could not get this thing to work (I threw away many hours of my life trying)! I gave up on my desktop computer (Win XP machine) and installed on my Windows 2000 Pro laptop...bingo! It worked. For the price, it's not horrible, but I don't love it. The software bundle is a bit cheesy. As far as being "flimsy" as others have written...I'm not sure how rugged it needs to be sitting on your monitor?! I have enjoyed making stupid faces at my brother in-law who lives in San Diego...our kids love it too.

Review: A Great camera compared to the rest.
by: on date: May 13, 2003
I purchased the pro 4000 to be able to see our grand children while traveling in the air force. The camera was very clear and the video could be viewed on full screen. The software interfaced very easly with win XP. Our son bought a logitech messenger which was good. He tried an express and returned it due to very poor video. The mount was solid but I was prepared for replacing it. I would recommend it without a problem.

Review: Good Deal, Good Quality
by: Matt Howe on date: May 11, 2003
This cam was very easy for me -- so easy that I got my dad to buy one. He's 72 and had no problem setting it up and using it either.

The Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 is my first webcam, so I don't have anything to compare it with. But for the price, I think it's a great deal. The quality is what I expected. My picture looks as good (and sometimes better) than many cams I see out there.

The set up is easy -- I have a Dell laptop running Windows XP.

The only drawback I can see is that you must use one cam broadcaster at a time. For instance, you cannot broadcast on Yahoo Messanger at the same time you may be in a webcam chat room on the web.

Otherwise, I'm completely satisfied.

There is no other reason to buy other webcams (even cheaper models from Logitech)

Review: Greate Web Cam
by: on date: May 1, 2003
This is my first WebCam. I do own still digital cameras. Just installed the Camera and S/W last night. It is a good looking device, not Military hardware, but good quality. Installed on a Dell w/Win XP Pro SP1 2.2GHz. Installation was smooth. Works great with Netmeeting, except that the audio has to be run using the computer's microphone (still have to investigate this). On AIM, once you start the AIM companion, the thing was easy to use, just use the companion to start the IM chat session, the first thing will be other person will see is an invitation link to your video session. On connection the Video comes out. Like very much the animation features of the S/W and Movie support. I purchased it more as a Teleconferencing item. Need to explore more about it. Image quality is very good to be just 640x480. I have not tried the still photography support yet.

With the $...gift certificate that I applied toward buying this webcam, I ended up paying ONLY $... for one of the best webcams in the market. Thanks Amazon.com.
Here are the pro's and con's about this webcam.
Pro's:
1. Excellent low light capability.
2. High quality picture.
3. Easy to install.

Con's:
1. Unstable (cheesy) tripod (stand).
2. Very inadequate operating manual.
3. Unfriendly manual focus ring.

Review: good image but do not say megapixel !
by: edouard on date: April 25, 2003
The QuickCam pro4000 from Logitech delivers a good 640 x 480 image, with good detail and good colors. Great photo can be taken, as well as timelapse and short videos.
But when it comes to the 'megapixel' (1280) mode the camera does not deliver (I have a 1 megapixel dig camera, the image is much sharper. I can zoom and crop a lot). It seems Logitech has done software tricks (2x resize of a 640 and then apply a gauss filter) to fake a megapixel image. Logitech disappoints on this one, and should legally write on the box that the megapixel mode is obtained by SOFTWARE INTERPOLATION
This is the first time Logitech disappoints and I still adore the many other logitech products I have. I will still keep this camera for its good 640 image, much better than my old QC traveller
Under low light I see vertical lines, but this is normal for a [$$] class product
About packaging the camera always comes off its futuristic mount because the pivot attachement is not well designed and the cable is pretty thick. Focusing is also very hard, the focus ring is hard to catch
Software: my vaio with xp gets gets stuck sometimes after recording a sequence. The soft MGI photosuite 4.0 SE is okay but my old MGI v8.1 has many more image processing functions
Conclusion: this camera will make you happy, but do not buy it if you are attracted mostly by the megapixel feature

Review: Good
by: on date: April 14, 2003
Great image quality over other webcams i tried. However software didnt work well with my XP and I tried to uninstall and install over adozen times with tech help from the company. I cant take stills or videos with it from its own software. SO instead I opted to keep the cam for its image quality and use the xp digital video software to make up for what this cam/s software did not allow me to do.

Review: Worst webcam ever
by: Hemant Kumar on date: April 14, 2003
The webcam shows pictures only intermittently. The short waranty period and no 1800 tech support number have made installing and getting this camera to work the single most frustrating experience in past 6 months. The tech support in addition has been distinctly unhelpful. The camera built is also flimsy with the round portion popping out of the stand every now and then.
I have been using computers for past 10 years (programming) and have not experienced any problems with hardware till date.

It is the first time I have written a review for any product and the only reason is that I have felt compelled by the poor standard of the equipment.

Review: A lot of noises
by: on date: April 10, 2003
This is a fine webcam. Installation was smooth, the software that came with it was pretty good for windows 98 to xp. The image quality was Okay, but that's all that I can say about it. At resolution of 640X480, there are a lot of noticable noises which does happen to my FAR VEO webcam which works under a lower resolution though.

The overall bulid seems not quite solid but i
